Then attitudes of people at Coldstream must have changed somewhat. I spoke to a person I thought was the owner a year or so ago about ultralight aeroplanes and he told me in no uncertain terms where to put my plane....What a shame they don't have any hangar space otherwise there might be more R.A.A. people there!

I've been flying into and leaving my plane (Jab LSA) at Coldstream when I go to Melbourne for the past 2 years and have always been treated fantastically! Pretty sure it was the old owner who I spoke to as well as the RVAC guys. Everyone has always been great.

I find the LSA gets a great welcome anywhere it goes.... just as long as I'm smiling!!!

My only comment about Coldstream is give some thought to operating with lots of gravel around. Plan to do your run up on an unused concrete pad. Otherwise it's a great place to fly from/to.

Regards

I agree Wayne, they are a friendly bunch at Coldstream and I hope I didn't infer otherwise. I do think that RVAC have only just woken up to the lower-cost / higher- margin 032_juggle.gif.8567b0317161503e804f8a74227fc1dc.gif of operating under RA-Aus - the Tecnam is currently $130/h solo and $120/h with a $10 member discount.

Runway16, I think it's a case of 'watch this space' with what RVAC do with/at Coldstream. The RVAC were negotiating to run the GA school at Tooradin, but an agreement did not materialise.

Dick Gower has set up the RA-Aus school at Coldstream with a Tecnam from Locksley and is now waiting on delivery of a J160 x-hire.

Did my GA training at Coldy in 1987 with good old Bad Breath sharpie.

Used to take mints and offer them when training.

Great instructor, with me and him and full fuel in the C150 we were illegal.

I would hop in first and shut my door, then he would get in and lean across me, squeezing his door shut, and the old cessna was bulging at the seams.

Sure is a different place now with MAF involved.

They used to tell us if you learned to fly at Coldstream, you could fly anywhere. We used to get people who trained at Moorabin come over and they would divert to Lilydale cause the strip looked to short and way too many powerlines.

Good memories.
