Description

This lovely Cub-like aeroplane was designed by Jesse Anglin of Spacewalker fame. It has a spacious cabin and baggage shelf. Taildragger with 600x6 aircraft wheels it is a true bushplane. Constructed using only the best aircraft materials it first flew in the early 2000's. Originally powered by a Subaru EA-81 this was found to be too heavy. It would really fly well with a Rotax 912 or Jabiru 2200. Got too old to be considering making the required mods it is offered for sale at $5,000. Included are, 1) Icom A-200 VHF radio, 2) Grand Rapids Technologies Engine Information Monitor, 3) Molds for cowling and seat, and other possible inclusions (rebuilt Subaru with Wade camshaft, EFI  and PSRU) PM for more details. Don, what is the MTOW of this aircraft? I'm a little puzzled by your description of it being an "A" type Karatoo. I read where the J6A was originally a Canadian kit with a Rotax, and the J6B is the modified Australian-built model with the Subaru. What is the origin of the aircraft frame? Is it Canadian or Australian built, and has the engine been upgraded from Rotax to Subaru? Cheers, Ron.

G'day Ron, This a/c was scratch built by a syndicate in Canberra. The fuse frame was welded by Quentin Campbell, holder of an aviation welding authority, to original plans from Jesse Anglin. The later Karatoos were different being sold by Max Peters from Box Hill, Vic. Quentin was at one time, Ops manager for the AUF.

Max Auw is , I think, 400kg. A Jab 2200, at around 55kg, makes a whole lot of sense here. This plane is in the same category as early Kitfoxes. I did the flying after completion and it flew beautifully (albeit that the engine was too heavy and the power off glide was steep). Don

What repairs are required or is it just the fitting of an engine. Do you have anymore pictures

G'day SAJ (is it Shona?)

Some minor work to the wing and some re-covering. Also some repairs to fuselage frame around wheel leg attachment due ground loop. Of course the re-engine. Basically a good airframe but still a project. Hope you are enjoying your T500.

Regards Don

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier Don, I work out of town and I forgot all about it. Do you have any pictures of the damaged area or areas that need work to be done.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          How much fuel does it hold, whats the MTOW and cruise speed. I know nothing about Karatoo's so any information you can give me would be great.                 I'm looking for a plane to do some bush flying in, the Thurster is great but I want something faster, the Jabiru is great but not a good bush plane, something in between, the Karatoo looks interesting.                                                                                                                                                                                                       Thanks Shane

G'day Shane, Below is a link to an article reflecting the same design and construction as ours.

We have a different aileron being al framed but fabric covered. All figures are similar. I believe that the AUW is 400kg.
