RA-Aus insurance

Guest Redair

Recommended Posts

Greetings each, just wanted to ask if anyone else had received an email regarding RA-Aus insurance? Not sure if it is genuine or a very good con. It appears to have failed fraud testing by the email software. Don't want to get caught if it is bogus.

Yep I got it too. I suspect its genuine, PSB are the current brokers. Ive sent a copy to a couple of board members asking if they were aware?

Wow, it's nice to see some open communication (even though it was not from our board). I liked my email about the insurance. It answered some questions that were lurking in the back of my mind.

I must be glass half empty today......

From my perspective there is nothing in the email that isn't available to members if you look on the RAAus website (under forms from memory) and there is a lot of advertising in the email suggesting that in all common RAAus insurance policies available to members that the cover may be insufficient.....but who ya gunna call? PSB.....

There's lots about how important a personal coverage certificate is, that wasn't provided in this email (wait there's more!), and how you'll get one shortly (or not if we don't use PSB again) which is then completely undermined by saying all you need to prove is RAAus membership and the covers yours...... Its just targeted advertising IMHO.

I wonder if Brian Biggs is still selling advertising space to PSB now that they have somehow gotten hold of all our email addresses......... I suspect Brian may well be the looser here

I am feeling left out ... we didn't get one.038_sweat.gif.5ddb17f3860bd9c6d8a993bf4039f100.gif

Maybe it is only going to a select few?

Yes I'm not too impressed about that aspect either, I was thinking they got mine from my election statement in the last Mag, but then I believed it's also there in the L2 listing which is public info....still is a form of advertising which I don't want in my Email box...still only takes a simple click to delete along with the rest !.................Maj...

We did mark to be shared and email. Maybe it is only going to certain aircraft categories? No idea really, but we have only one on the register and two in the expired, waiting for input from us before renewal, pile. I checked our junk mail - nothing. I don't think I am missing much.

Yep it was a sales letter alright. I wonder how much would it be to increase your cover to $5 million ?

A few years ago, there was a company selling the idea that having insurance increased the likelihood of you being sued. They were selling legal services to set up family trusts which they said couldn't be sued.

It seemed fishy to me, but I do know of a family farm which didn't have to pay out an ex-wife because of a trust thing.

I'd like to know more, but in the meantime I'm going to continue flying passengers, carefully of course.

They also drew your attention to the unsubscribe option.

A few years ago I was bombarded with those "they will sue the pants off you" letters sent to people on the GA register (our names & addresses are public) including "personal" letters from affected aviation people, a couple of those people claimed they never gave permission. In the end AOPA published an article (by Spencer F?) detailing the pros & cons of these schemes. The thing to remember is that if you gift your assets to a family trust or other alternate scheme, you no longer 'own' them. There are a whole new raft of rules & implications. Best to talk to a specialist in the area first.

As we don't have a real business relationship with them (they have one with RA, not the membership), I think it is SPAM. It is possibly in the grey area, in that they do provide a business service, but it is indirect via RA.

I just hate this stuff, and the arrogant attitude that comes with it: "We have a business relationship with you so we can".

personally I am glad to actually have received the attached Certificate of Currency for the liability insurance with my name on it, I have always considered it odd that for any other insurance I have (car house etc) I have documents detailing the coverage.

As you did before the email was sent....

Go to the forms part of the www.raa.asn.au website and in that area is this http://www.raa.asn.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Members-Liability-Insurance-Certificate-of-Currency-30-10-121.pdf it specifies financial members. We all have appropriate cards to prove membership on a specifc day of an event so Im not sure it does anything more than we already had.

I understand that Andy, but I do feel better (logical or not) having a document with my name on it confirming the coverage. I am personally not bothered by receiving this, it doesn't strike me as being a different way of doing business than any of my other insurance companies, but again that is just my feeling.

cheers

Thanks for the replies, seems I'm not alone, but also seems I can quite happily ignore it... more important things to think about.

So to wrap all this up it appears the sending out of the Email was instigated by the RAAus office and The GM Mark Clayton has accepted full responsibility....did he talk with anyone before doing so ? IE; president, secretary, board?..............Maj...

Gentlemen, methinks we have more than sufficient crap on our platter at the moment rather than to further muddy the waters by devoting energies to this minor cock-up.

Riley, you are correct , there are bigger fish on our plate, however every team has to be held responsible for their actions, just as past ones were, and scorecards should be kept on good and poor decisions by those we have put in place to manage . As I''m sure you would agree, it's all part of being open, transparent, and accountable...........Maj....
