The TV show Grand Designs last Sunday was about a couple building a house on their Scottish airfield. The house was a bit avant-garde and looked worse in the flesh than on the plans, but it did have a fantastic glassed lounge / kitchen area to watch the airfield and a glassed section in the roof to view them flying over. My husband doesn't like "calamity Kevin" so he missed out on a bit of plane porn. I like watching Kevin to follow the mistakes people make and see the innovation. I have just now emailed him a Bill for the 25 mins of my life that I wasted whilst that show was on. If he pays up without argument I shall use the money for fuel and take him for a fly. I wonder how many flyable days they get between gale force winds, torrential rain, & snowstorms? The large numbers of wind generators visible in the background suggests the wind must be pretty constant in that location. Great house though, and a lovely little grass strip. British people don't seem to know how to build timber framed houses, although I lived in one in Shropshire for three years. steel framing is a good way to go in my opinion, especiall in windy conditions. Kevin Mc C is good value in my opinion, most of his worries are put in just to add drama to the show. What I really like is the way he goe on about having an architect, being essential and when an architect is involved it is usually an expensive cock up.
