Another Melbourne airport

That's one of the biggest ephemeral swamps in Australia. 1934 level is marked in the main street at shoulder height.

Wonder what the total area multiplied by about six metres of fill would cost.

There appears from Google Earth to be signs of a former airfield in the area, apart from Tooradin.

It sure is, Turbs. But you know how it is...people forget!

If they go ahead it will probably see the closing of Tooradin and might impact quite severely on Tyabb, too.

I think they need to start looking outside the square and re-launch Mangalore as Melbourne's alternative airport. Connect it to the city with a very fast train and get the benefit of the much better weather north of the Divide. Put it in farm land rather than stuffing up the green wedge.

Alternatively, if they are going to compulsorily acquire land for this, then take it off the Fox and build put Avalon.

If the Feds would cooperate, they could close Moorabbin and transfer GA to PCK...but the Western Suburbs have Already frightened Mr Andrews so I guess that's out.

Three airports not enough for Melbourne , one is not paying the owners enough profit now, (he's a millionaire already), So how would four airports survive economically.spacesailor

The proposal is for a major international and domestic airport, so we're comparing it with Tullamarine, where the long term car park has grown to several kilometres long, and for some years we've had to walk and drag luggage to bus stops and travel to the terminals in full size buses. The terminals themselves have expanded from the small city concept where everyone walks

everywhere except for a few movinf walkways, to half kilometre walks at times.

So the current dual use airport is bulging at the seams.

On top of that we have an additional million or so setting up house in Melbourne by about 2030, so the financial model is about right.

There may be the odd international flight to Avalon, but basically it's only used by Jetstar who fly 3 flights per day.

That,s the problem, the big airlines want to stay in the two main airports, leaving Avalon running on a very tight profit.

A fourth airport will see the demise of Avalon, so were to for the airshow?. ( more room for house's.).

The only 'airlilnes' that use Essendon are Alliance and Sharp. Avalon and Koo Wee Rup are a huge distance apart with Port Phillip Bay in the middle. Koo Wee Rup is intended to service the Mornington Peninsula and South Gippsland. It's like comparing Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. YBSU is not competition for YBGC.

An international airport there would lock down airspace south of the divide from avalon to east sale. No fun in that!

I already suffer from East Sale by being based out of West Sale

Still average 100 hrs a year which included 6 months away over the years doing even time rotational work
