Private airstrip just "north" of Cooma. Murrumbucca?

Recommended Posts

I was talking to someone and they mentioned a private strip around that part of the world.

They did some work at the house.

Just wondering if the person who owns the strip is a member here?

Well, I was given FEW details.

Just "north of the pumping station".

And that is the only one I could find.

So I thought I would ask and see if I could find the owner.

There is a glider strip East-West just north of Cooma.  Its the entry for mountain wave flying in a few months when the westerly's start blowing.  Been there a few times, its name alludes me but the gliding people would know of it.

No knowledge of this strip. There is a private strip south of Michelago but no access and a powerline across it.

I understood that is active.   Or:  was.

A few years back I met some people at Tumut and I believe they were from that strip.

I've been to a strip with a power line "across" it.    You just keep the plane on the ground until you are past said power line then climb.

(Not that strip.  Another one.)

You might be thinking of Bunyan Airstrip, Monaro highway, Bunyan, about 12 km by road north of Cooma.

It's the home of Canberra Gliding Club, with lots of grass strips, visible from the highway with signage.

A check of the address of the map in the 2nd post matches a Tecnam Eaglet registered VH-PHG. That should give you the owners name if you want to try to contact them

The second post is a URL to google maps.

Or did I miss something?

Not sure anyone has notcied this bit:

New details:

Peter Davis.

Yalcowinna.

The first name I posted is because the names of the properties don't line with what google says.

(Remember:  Googles isn't always right)

I got the name from what was shown.

After a bit of asking/digging I got the person's name and property name.

Yes, this is the same name and property as listed for VH-PHG

One Peter H Davis operates the Yalcowinna Pastoral Company at Shannons Flat Rd, Murrumbucca, and if you zoom out on the map location for the airstrip that I posted in the 2nd post, you will see the driveway leading to the farm homestead runs off Shannons Flat Rd. I'm sure that's enough details to be able to contact the airstrip owner.

The Belgium address is the Infobel website owners address. Infobel merely gather up publically-available information. It appears Yalcowinna Pastoral Co is not listed on either White Pages nor Yellow Pages, so that makes it harder to find contact information. However, Peter H Davis is contactable through LinkedIn, he has a profile there. But you need to join LinkedIn if you're not already registered with them.

If that approach fails, try contacting the Cooma Rotary Club, Peter Davis is (or was) their President.
