Have any of you flown in conditions like this?

Not sure whether this thread should have been in "Weather" or "Incidents & Accidents - About to happen".

Below is the Area weather around here today.

If that was a ride in a theme park I'd be the 1st to whack my money down, so have any of you ever flown an RAA aircraft in conditions like this?

And if so, ................. what's it like?

Or am I & others just being wimps not heading straight up to above 8000?

Regards Geoff (with tongue in cheek, & heart in stomach)

PS Will make it interesting for the poor buggers trying to fly their displays at the Temora Aviation Museum today. They deserve better.

Below is what is predicted over your way. Looks like they reached into the BOM weather closet and said "Give 'em one of each today in Area 30", but maybe clearing a little later.

However these predictions give a much better idea of what is going to happen, even if you aren't going to fly, than the abbreviated garbage that is on the news when it is almost impossible to work out where the front actually is.

Sure looks like it is a good day to stay inside.

Looks like that system has lost it's oomph! We had 330/60 from surface up last week, which was the reason for substantial damage around the SW corner of WA. Surface winds in Albany reached 125 km/hr....67kts by my calculator.

Whenever the forecast says 'severe' - lock the hangar doors ...regardless of whether it's VH or 24/19 registered!!

happy days,

I was polishing the car this morning and I heard the sound of a Lycoming approaching, so I stuck my head out of the garage, and there was a PA28 doing some really bloody low level circuits.

I would estimate 300ft AGL, max.

I did what any sane newsman would do.. switch on the scanner, load the camera in the car and wait for the crash.

Then again, about lunchtime, more bloody low level and reaaly tight circuits.. so tight the crosswind leg became the downwind leg all in the one tight circle. At least the landing light was on, this time around.

I just thought to myself the guy was an accident looking for somewhere to happen.. and I turned the volume up on the scanner.. and kept polishing..

Ben
