Captain Posted January 16, 2009 Share Posted January 16, 2009 To Ian and GrandePierre & SlartiHotPlate I notice that the AAAA are holding their Fly-In and Airshow at Echuca on April 24th - 26th this year. That fits in well with the other Events that are planned this year (Avalon, Narromine and Wide Bay) so what do you think if this Forum Membership were to attach themselves to that AAAA Echuca event and see if we can negotiate a group parking and socialising area. If that can be done it would allow us to have a group get-together without someone needing to organise it from scratch ...... and all we would need is a Chewca based BBQ, a couple of B-Doubles of Geoff's plonk and 3 tonnes of components for snag sangas. If not we will have to source off field accomodation/camping areas. I think ... after all, you would pay a fortune at an Adventure Park for a fully insured thrill ride like that. PS That is the Anzac Day weekend ........ and I guess that the only negative for some Forum Members might be that it is just 2 weeks after Natfly, however as this was meant to be a southern region get-together I think it would still work because Echuca is a good central location to that area, but would be interested to hear what others think. All I think we'd be asking for is visibility and awareness of numbers etc. as this would impact on planning for facilities such as toilets etc. Also, as there will be an official "airshow" on the Sunday, there would be a limitation on access to the field during the display period. As mentioned, if there is a movement to coordinate a Recreational Flying fly-in for this weekend, I would expect the AAAA committee and Echuca Aero Club would be keen to know and help ensure all attendees are catered for in all respects. Captain Posted January 18, 2009 Author Share Posted January 18, 2009 Thanks Matt I'd be surprised if we all can't make this a mutually beneficial event and attendance for both the AAAA and for those forum members who choose to attend ..... and with BigPete on the job down at Echuca, it should also be relatively easy to coordinate for both groups. The AAAA Airshow is one of the reasons that I would go, so I'm sure that most of us would be happy to sit on the ground, watch that & keep out of the AAAA's way during that time. In the meantime, if you are speaking with your committee why don't you assume that Pete will work up a plan in cooperation and if you can keep in mind to give us an area where we can all park together it would be great. Having the AAAA aircraft arrive on Friday and Saturday is a fantastic oppurtunity for all you camera happy (and just plane crazy) people to get your fill. There's a hell of a lot of effort (and money) goes into this to make it run smooth. Website is up and running with some, but not all content yet. Link: www.echucaairshow.com.au To get the most I would suggest you fly in on Fri/Sat and plan to fly home on the Monday (holiday for ANZAC day) The RSL runs a great service and breakfast early Saturday for those wishing to attend an ANZAC service. ANZAC day is obviously on the Saturday and the gazetted Public Holiday is also on the Saturday this year, so for this year it's not a long weekend...well, not one the govt. is giving you anyway. Matt Posted January 18, 2009 Share Posted January 18, 2009 Oh, and just having a read of the official airshow website T's&C's, camping will not be permitted: 7 Public camping of any kind including motor homes is not permitted on the airfield or in any of the designated vehicle parking areas or in the private aircraft parking area. And as a technicality re the excerpt from the T's & C's as posted by Matt, if you fly in and camp with your aircraft, which surely gives you a legitimate air-side interest (or even a security interest to protect your ship) on an airport at an event such as this, can that really be described as "public" camping? And if it can be allowed on Bundaberg Airport with RPT's etc during the Wide Bay Airshow, why not at good old Chewca for an AAAA function?
