Glider Wheel-dangling Accident
This is Libelle VH-GTX... she originally was bought into the country in the late 1960's by a member of the Leichhardt Soaring Club in North West Qld by the name of Don Stewart. My earliest flying memories are of Don and my Dad flying her all over the outback... travelling in the car with the trailer in tow as Dad and Don scouted out new landing areas. She left the Isa in the late 1970's for a few years and then was bought back in syndicate with my Dad and a few other members in the 1980's. She now lives in Victoria and I will admit as I watched this clip... seeing her get closer and closer and the wheel dangling a sick feeling started in my stomach... somehow I knew it was her coming home injured. So these five gliding clips I have added show more than 40 years of operation of this beautiful aircraft... which I think is pretty amazing! A glider (H210B Std Libelle) landing with the wheel disconnected and dangling from the brake cable. It's sort of like a wheels-up, but different. Video taken near Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges in 2005.
