  1. Yes, that’s the one. Paid bit less than that though from Yarrawonga. But I believe they are now hard to get (like everything else). They are easier to read than the liquid , standard ones.
  2. Skippy, I’ve bought a Beijing instruments vc compass. Works well, very happy with it.
  3. Thanks Roscoe I actually think I will get a Beijing instruments one. They are the best price and don’t seem to have any inherent problems.
  4. I need a new compass. Want to get a vertical card compass. How does the Beijing instrument stack up against the Precision compass? I know one is TSO’d and the other not, but more interested in how they compare in real life useage. Thanks
  5. APenNameAndThatA thanks, was hoping to get one or two others thoughts. Sometimes what sounds great when you first read about it doesn’t look so good after you get a few other opinions. Cheers
  6. I’ve just been reading about ‘Wingbugs’ and they sound like an excellent idea. I can’t find any reviews on them though. A few of my instruments are showing their age (compass, ASI, stall warning), and thought this might make a good accurate second six pack set. If anyone has used it I would love to know how good it is, would you go that way again, and any other thoughts. Here’s the link if anyone hasn’t seen them before. www.wingbug,com thanks
  7. Thanks everyone! Agree the best thing is to know what you start with, how much you use per hour (I have a fuel Misor fitted to filter), and how long you’ve been flying. I also like some of the other suggestions and will toss them around. I know shining a torch from behind through the tanks works great, just a bit difficult getting into position , especially when busy😀 Might look at fitting a flexible led desk lamp behind with an on/off switch near the armrest. I could Velcro it to the tank so it shows through and just turn on off as required. Thanks , Jenny
  8. Interested in what ideas are being used to read the fuel level in an 85 litre tank behind the seats. I find its easy enough to read down to about 45 l, then it gets too difficult to see easily. i dont want to be adding electrics or dials on the dash, just a simple manual way of reading it. Also dont want to be removing tank to add sensors etc.
  9. Been playing around with it today. So , generally aircraft 10nm or more away readability around 3, quite ok, with occasional interference. Closer they are is really great, usually readability 5. There are lots of high hills around here so perhaps that’s why melb wasn’t readable, also 80nm away, and I think I was only about 4500ft. RFguy, we found a bare wire that’s been damaged somehow going to the aerial. Taped that up and checked all electrics with engine running. Shane used the hand held and a friend checked with his aircraft at other end of strip. Think we have narrowed it down now,
  10. Glen, apologies, was trying for a joke re Chinese ... ie they never know which direction they are and are always number one! Not their actual radios😀 yes the antennae is in the tail. Can usually hear aircraft ok, about 3, so readable for most. Although the few times I’ve contacted melb centre they have been quite scratchy and unreadable. Aircraft close by I seem able to read better.
  11. RFguy , yes it should be logical, but doesn’t seem to be. We have a hand held that Shane uses to check my radio before each flight. About 50% of the time he reads 4 to 5 on first tx. Sometimes he can’t read me at all so I’ll jiggle around headset, ppt, intercom etc and try again, usually can get it a bit better. In the air though, I’m never sure if someone’s reading me or not. There’s been times when I’ve asked several questions from other acft, no answer, and when I see them on the ground to check , they say they didn’t hear any of my tx. Another friend is often up at same time as me and he
  12. Hi all bit of a question on radios. Ive had no experience with changing any instruments around. My current single frequency micro air radio seems to have an intermittent fault. Has been bench tested and found to be ok, but it isn’t. I intend upgrading my complete radio, Mgl v16 do sound quite good. But i want to know if I buy the radio will, or can, any radio tech fit it? Do they prefer to buy radios for you so they can get the markup on them? Do most of them have their own preferences, therefore if you give them a radio might they not want to fit it? Because of the static I’m getting
  13. You’ve got a good way of looking at a situation @spacesailor. I’ll take you up anytime!
  14. Thelma and Louise had some fun times! @FlyBoy1960 thanks, I will contact her. She must be a lovely person, she flies a Jab😆 @spacesailor yes there are lots of options. I’m just getting a bit bored flying around same local area. Any time spent flying is a bonus, but I hear of people visiting all these wonderful places and I want to be able to tell my own stories. There are plenty of men who do little trips, and would be quite happy to have me tag along, but it’s always nice to have another female in the group too. Also, I have many friends who would love being a passenger, but
  15. Hi all, id like to know if there are many ladies who fly who would like to do a few flyaways together. Preferably who live in NE Vic or border regions. I’m not looking for someone who wants to be a passenger, more some ladies who owns or can hire their own aircraft. A buddy to fly away with.😀 My husband isn’t fussed about doing any overnight trips, or even longer day trips too often, but I’d really like to. I would prefer not to just do trips with men only. just thought I’d put it out there!
  16. @Mike Gearon how’s your strip at French Island going? I’m looking forward to the promised scones!
  17. There is so much interesting stuff here! I would like to update my cockpit a bit so am expecting to learn a lot!
  18. My 2cents worth... I love reading about everyone else’s aircraft! I’ve recently purchased another aircraft myself, and many of you gave advice. But I’m always checking out what everyone else flies, looking at the bio’s then going to websites to check out details of each aircraft. I really enjoy it when someone like Skippy talks about the Faeta. I like his enthusiasm. If he hadn’t thrown the Faeta’s into conversations I wouldn’t have known about it nor explored the possibility of owning one myself. so, I reckon, if someone keeps mentioning an aircraft because they’re passionate about them,
  19. Anyone know who owns the airstrip on Break of Day Rd at Glenburn, Vic? It’s a private strip and shows up really well on the satellite map.
  20. You’d feel special getting into one of them.
  21. Hi @Blueadventures, where you’re flying looks amazing! Is that your Nynja in second last photo.? Nice. What’s the multi coloured aircraft low wing parked next to you? Hope the weather stays nice for you. Enjoy😀
  22. Hi Alan, still only one. Sold my baby, now have the big sister. All grown up now 😆 Bigger, faster, hungrier!
  23. Roscoe, she’s a SP 500. Flew beautifully on the way home, straight and balanced with a light touch on the controls. Was in no rush so cruised home 90kts.
