  1. Where’s OME ? Tooraweenah is publicising a fly-in for first w/e in June. Maybe he is still recovering from the Arthur Butler ‘Winging it down the Castlereagh’ trophy event. Tooraweenah is a great small town with a great grass strip if anyone wants to visit…..and it has a bit of aviation history.
  2. I believe one of the issues is that 3G operates at 700mhz and 4G operates at 850mhz. 4G has approx a 10 fold performance gain, but coverage may not penetrate as far in the 3G areas it replaces…..but I’m no expert in these matters. As others have mentioned, generally ANY coverage is poor once you leave populated areas anyhow. Maybe Starlink is the answer.
  3. Yet another flying car - now certified and now sold to China.
  4. I believe the aero commander was rescued this afternoon.
  5. If you zoom in you can just make out the tennis stadium.
  6. Ahhh, yes he did ! - I’ve read “The Hazelton Story” by Denis Gregory. It took him 6 days walk to get to the Coxs River post office- a remarkable story. The poor old Auster was a wreck, but he still managed to sell it for 300 quid ! Nowadays there a couple of golf courses if you follow the Great Western Hwy to Blackheath. I’m not sure about tennis courts though. Sadly my days of flying PIC over the mountains are no more, so I guess my job is to look for those tennis courts now.
  7. Are you sure that is Hogan Island ? It looks a lot like Tracey Island, and I suspect there was no media coverage as it was an ‘International Rescue’ by the Thunderbirds.
  8. Remember the QF A330 incident near Exmouth back in 2008 ? Over 100 injured due to a computer glitch……and that was an airbus !
  9. I dunno, this crowd may be interesting to watch regardless of what view you have of the development and suitability of the technology. The CEO of Vertiia was previously the CEO of GE Australia and the lot that placed the order (albeit conditional) are significant players - and operate King Airs etc and do medical transfers etc. So again should be no fools. i guess all I’m saying is I think this lot are slightly better than ‘wannabe’s’….and at least they are home grown. Yeah it’s their first attempt, but we need to start somewhere to transition to new energy sources……and I think is better than batteries for this application.
  10. Aviation Logistics signs Order for 10 Vertiia eVTOLs - Australian Flying
  11. I'm following this CTA access thing with interest. As others have mentioned, there are some parts of Australia where CTA will become increasingly difficult to avoid......and it shouldn't be avoided.
  12. Paddy- why are you dragging that door across the desert ?? Oh, I’ll wind the window down in a minute and get a nice cool breeze !
  13. Class G to Class D for much of the western Sydney basin and requiring a transponder and flight plan https://www.australianflying.com.au/latest/new-airspace-design-to-reduce-class-g-in-sydney-basin RAAus will need to get access to controlled airspace sorted sooner rather than later.
  14. Back to the thread……….sort of. The very first production Jabiru aircraft (LSA 55) is on permanent display at the Narromine Aviation Museum for those that are interested.
  15. We’ll all be rooned - the end of pilots is near !
  16. Don’t tease us - are you at liberty to share the conversation, or at least the outcome ?
  17. The widow is suing…….. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-12-06/chris-willow-wilson-widow-sues-helibrook-casa-over-fatal-crash/103195990
  18. Not much commentary about vehicle to home (bi-directional) charging so far - it’s coming. The average EV can supply electricity to a home for a couple of days if needed. I guess this could be called a microgrid if you have a bunch of panels on the roof and use an EV battery as your storage device.
  19. AGL is building a monster battery just up the road at Tomago.
  20. The Aurora project was sold to 1414 degrees and will be converted to solar PV and molten silicon storage for dispatchable energy. View the 1414 degrees website.
  21. Actually, there are so many allotropes of carbon, they are divided into classes.
  22. Clearly we all need to fly in carbon composite aircraft, to offset the carbon emissions from the engine. (Before I get spammed, I’m kidding !)
  23. Are you sure it was an electric truck that caught fire ? Is there a reliable news source ? Fairfax and Murdoch covered the story but didn’t mention it was electric - which seems odd. TikTok however, states it was electric. Curious.
