    RAAus to disclose member details

Would (should?) the Board have had a say in this? If so surprising that someone didn't ask the question whether the proposal was legal given that most members indicated they didn't want their details revealed. Anyway - how do we get this reversed? Do we individually write to RAA confirming that we don't our personal details revealed ? Other suggestions? Thanks, Bill
  2. I believe this Senate (19 Nov 2018) hearing was brought about by AOPA's CEO Benjamin Morgan agitating, over the RAA vs PPL's medical standards. I suggest viewing part 2 first. Morgan is impressive! He knows his stuff, has researched it thoroughly & is articulate (unlike some of the other participants) They’d been invited there to talk about medicals, but Morgan managed to introduce the plethora of problems facing in GA in Australia. Next suggest viewing Part 3 – CASA has brought in the big guns, but didn't convince the Committee. They've been invited back for another try in 2 weeks. Part 1 - RAA had done their homework & followed the party line. Parachuting Australia's rep confused everyone! Part 1 RAA, PFA & Warbirds submission https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1Eto_yeLhs&fbclid=IwAR0JGmDMC_dXu22fl-RQ9sZDf7zz5xzkSqS8mTqn4bZ2h1-TX3k_zEf6ets Part 2 AOPA, GFA, AMROBA & SAAA submission https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqOj_E_dLBo&fbclid=IwAR1OYYcYj7qtunvh5i7es8wGxfXfr6zbHx5MSShAOMjt7MfeJ_AzXJZhvjo Part 3 CASA response https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zXOBJegco4&fbclid=IwAR0t3Hotbe0ppGkoGm8Wq506Z69aqXrQCvM4ZGop_5aOYl8_B8NL8cJ7UXA Declaring my affiliations - I'm an active participant in RAA, GFA & PPL.

    Who’s going to Oshkosh 2018?

25 – 27 July – Oshkosh. I'd suggest another day if you can - there is so much to see / do. The days can be long & tiring - for your dad (& you) the "trams" make it easy to get about. Take a load off your feet by sitting down & watching the daily airshows (& the Wednesday night airshow shouldn't be missed). Finally the EAA HQ / museum is well worth a visit - allow at least 3 hours. Have a great trip! Bill

    NOTAM language confusion

Thanks for the explanation. The word "NON-INDEPENDENT" is what caused the confusion (for me & 2 others). Replacing it with SIMUL (simultaneous) would have been preferable. And btw, we rang the number given (no answer), left a voice mail msg requesting a call back & 4 days later - still no response.
  6. Current YBTH notam (below) indicates the RAAF cadets have a gliding camp in progress. Power traffic circuits for Rwy 17/ 35 at YBTH are now permanently to the East (ie RH circuits on Rwy 35, LH on 17). Can someone explain what is meant by " ... RWY 17/35 NON-INDEPENDENT CONTRA CCTS. 7. The CASA doc also says "... who require frequent access to a secure area of a security controlled. ... etc". So does this mean that if I land to for fuel at a Bowser located +200M from the terminal building, I don't need an ASIC?
  8. Has anyone been fined for not being able to produce an ASIC?

    ASIC frustration

If you are found airside without an ASIC, who fines / prosecutes you? (CASA, airport operator, police?) Are there any stats / FOI figures to indicate how many have been fined / prosecuted?

    Control cables

Hi Gareth, where did you hire the swage machine? Was it a "roller" type or "nicopress" tool? I've heard that some yachting supply / shipwrights can do "roller" swaging. Rgds, Bill

    ASIC frustration

How the bureacracy works (or doesn't ) Nov 2013 The Aviation Safety Regulation Review (chaired by Forsyth) is commissioned June 2014. Forsyth hands the report to the Governement. Recommendation 36 The Australian Government amends regulations so that background checks and the requirement to hold an Aviation Security Identification Card are only required for unescorted access to Security Restricted Areas, not for general airside access. This approach would align with international practice. The recommendations were handed to The Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development for review and implementation in July 2014. As at 31 December 2015 (regarding Recommendation 36) Action: In the first half of 2015 the Government will commence consultation with industry on any potential changes to the scope of the ASIC scheme. Status: Industry was consulted during 2015 via a discussion paper, airport site visits and industry forums. The Department will provide advice, taking into account industry comments, on these issues, to the Government for its consideration in the first half of 2016. As at 25 August 2016 (regarding Recommendation 36) Action: In the first half of 2015 the Government will commence consultation with industry on any potential changes to the scope of the ASIC scheme. Status: Completed. The Department has consulted industry and significant implementation issues have been identified. Further progress will be considered as part of a review of the current categorisation of security controlled airports. So ....... The Department has consulted industry (would that have included RAA, AOPA, both of whom made submissions?) ...... significant implementation issues have been identified ( like what ?? )
