1. If I may, Ian would be so pleased to see that his life has not been totally in vain. To know that we have reached all of you with our message is of great comfort. There are many treatments for prostate cancer now and more being developed with research. Please remember to also make sure YOU get the results of your tests, dont just assume the GP will get back to you if something is wrong. Please keep this conversation going, and beyond this forum would be even better!

I thank you all warmly for your sympathy and support.

  3. It's a pity Andy that most of those (government and individuals) who tried to stop the executions in Indonesia didn't have your slant on the situation. That is, what is inevitable will happen and can't be changed. So therefore, it follows doesn't it, that those with the reigns who have a mind set whether good or bad won't be diverted from their course or purpose. I suppose that's why we have elections in politics so if the majority view is against the mind set of the ones holding the reigns, the ones holding the reigns at the time can be toppled.

Holy shit!!! Give it up will you Rick.

  4. I found this on facebook this morning! What`s the verdict? Good, Bad or otherwise?

I`ve never seen it before! I think it`s great... Thanks to the guy who posted it, hope you don`t mind me using it.

    Frank.

I like it Franco:smile: I want a T-shirt with that printed on it.

Might have to see how that can be done if these are not freely available elsewhere.

  5. As usual Frank you are doing your bit for the ultralight scene, and more particularly the Drifter.

You are very generous with your time and aircraft, and more power to you because of that.

It's easy to see your most recent passengers enjoyed themselves greatly.

    Keep well mate.

  6. n 2005 here in Sherlock we had a 120 kmh squall, I had my single seat bunyip anchored outside. The wind hit it head on and my wife and I went out ( during squall) it was lifted completely off the ground , lucky the fence stakes held tight in the lime stone and the fencing wire( all I had at the time but worked well) held out, that and hanging my heavy 65 kg body off the 447 helped I like to think. We often talk about it and yes how bloody stupid I was in the squall hanging off the plane that could have taken me with it.

And these days in 2014 in 140kmh squall, I defiantly wasn't hanging off the prop. I was actually hanging off a truck strap attached to my car and the un finished hangar .054_no_no_no.gif.950345b863e0f6a5a1b13784a465a8c4.gif

Hehehe, I can see that in my "Minds eye" flyerme. And it would be a funny sight seeing you flapping about in the breeze.

The things we do, at the spur of the moment, to protect the things we hold dear.

  7. Great to catch up with you Tim. 2 hours well spent in seeing what you have done at your place, and inspecting your 2 aircraft as well. Thanks for your generosity in sparing some time with Gay and me from WA.

All the best Tim, and don't forget, if you are ever in WA I need to know about it.

    Cheers,

  8. flyerme,

Me and my good wife will be in your area, caravanning through Sherlock in the next couple of days, and were thinking to drop in and say g'day.

If you are amenable to this idea then please let me know.

I remember your account of building your runway a few years ago and would like to see how you got on with it all.

    Cheers,

  9. G'day Tomo,

    Thruster vs Drifter eh?

I did all my ab initio training in a Drifter and absolutely loved it. They are a great aircraft with some unique features, including the 'broomstick' feel from the front seat. It can be quite disconcerting flying along without being able to see the wing. Great view too.

The Thruster, for me, suits my purposes better, but does not have quite the performance of the Drifter. In addition, the Thruster has a few 'quirks' that can bite you if you are inattentive, especially on landing and roll out.

The Drifter has a better glide ratio, is easier to land, cruises about 5 knts faster and will cost a bit more than a comparable Thruster, from what I can see.

The Thruster glides like a brick, can be uncomfortable after an hour in the air, is fun to fly (and land), and is a fairly tough "agricultural" type of aircraft.

I reckon the Thruster is great for a fun machine but not so good for long distance flying.

Good luck with the research Tomo.

  11. Don't know if this is and unfinished prototype or what but the pilot is in the right-hand seat. Long video but enjoyable. Presenting the Sigma 4P

Not sure if it is this model, or just a close relative, but there is a Sigma4 in the most Westerly hangar at Northam Airfield.

At least, it was there last time I looked. Never seen it fly though.

  12. Close cowl flaps, apply carby heat.

A bit hard to do on the ol' T500 Thruster:wink:

This time of year though, I cover part of my radiator elements to ensure sufficient engine temps.

  13. Have read that shock cooling can be a prob with Rotax water cooled engines when doing circuits. On approach, low eng rpm, water circulating slowly, engine cooling, crack throttle for go- around, colder water in rad hits cylinders, cylinders suddenly cooling(contracting), piston suddenly heating(expanding) due to fuel burn, engine stops. Emergency landing, pilot checks engine and good chance it will start but will not develope full power.

Yep, heard about this - it's known as a "Cold seizure".

I'm always wary, especially at this time of the year, during any decent or in the circuit, that I adequately maintain engine temperature.

  14. Well done Howie, that is really what ultralight flying is about ... The adaptability. Please keep us posted on your flying progress. I am particularly interested if you use normal float technique on take off ( stick full back, full power, up on the step, stick forward, accelerate to take off speed and rotate), or is she so light she just stays on the step and lifts off. I am looking at fitting floats to my Javelin, so am particularly interested.BTW. Watch out for that ol Cannuck, he will lead you astray ... Have you seen the mob he associates with??? ROFLMAO
