  1. I've flown both and far prefer the handling and responsiveness of the Tecnam P96 Golf. Having said that, it's still each to their own - both have their own pro's and cons and it tends to come down to pilot preference. Enjoy.
  2. G'day Jake, I don't consider myself an expert in the field, but from my research and experience with building a decent FSX capable machine, I've learned that there are four main components that make FSX run well... 1. The thing that FSX craves most is CPU power and speed... A quad core overclocked to at least 4GHz will make FSX run smoother because it can now calculate and present innumerable variables of data at a near real-time pace. Weather data, air traffic location data, your aircraft systems, it's behaviour in flight... You get the picture. 2. Next in line of importance is a somewhat high-end graphics card with a large amount of VRAM. 1GB or more of VRAM makes a massive difference in terms of FPS and the prettiness of the scenery. 3. Then, it's sufficient high-speed, low latency RAM. 4GB seems to be the sweet spot. More than that makes less of a difference than an upgrade from 2 or 3GB to 4GB. 4. Finally, a fairly good HDD with good read/write speeds. Most 7400rpm and just about any 10,000rpm HDD's are ideal. However, that's just the foundation. Every PC build is different. Everybody has their own preference in terms of how they build up their PC and maintain it. There's lots of information and resources out there. It's just a matter of taking the time to take it in and experiment. Oh, and spend a fair bit of money on hardware and a bit of software! Cheers,
  3. G'day Bryan, First answer - yep, I've been using FSX on Windows 7 64bit since I discovered one important benefit: it addresses far more memory than the 32bit version. For example, if you have 4GB RAM in a 32bit version of Windows, it only recognises 3.5GB of it. Windows 7 64bit sees up to 256GB of RAM (I think, but it is a crazy high number). You say it's an "el-cheapo" machine? Not sure of your enthusiasm level for FSX, but el-cheapo machines may not make the grade to run FSX at a good pace. Sorry, second question I don't quite understand. Cheers,
  4. Good stuff! Well done on achieving this milestone.

    Good video

I think you'll find that if Aus wasn't such a nanny state these days, we'd be a lot more patriotic. Still, it's a far better country to live in than most, let me tell ya!

    The German:

Hm. Some good stuff there. Have a look at the other videos by the same author (these are shown at the end of the clip).
  7. Golly, there's no real short way to answer this. If you can believe the marketing hype and the pre-release videos, it's very much improved - better looking, more realistic and more stable. Apparently, it's also being sold/licenced in a quite different manner than before: the Hawaiian islands region is free and you can buy other regions as you wish. What they'll cost I don't think they've revealed yet. Having said all that, over the years, I've invested quite a bit in FSX and it's associated software and hardware, so I'm probably not going to change too quickly. Time will tell.
  8. Wow! That first one made my head spin, everything was going so fast. Really good videos, thanks for sharing.
  9. Golly, that's one expensive lesson. But, apparently, it even happens to the best of us.
  10. Ah. That explains the problem I had yesterday. I had a connection timeout around 8.30pm last night. Didn't worry me, since I'd just finished on catching up with the forums.

    Flying part 1

Excellent post, thanks very much Ozzie. I particularly enjoyed the "wannabe pilot's" exploits in the air. What precision and control!
  12. "Freak accident", my a**. While I'm sorry for the woman's misfortune, it was definitely preventable. The pilot must take at least some responsibility for her. Complacency has no place in aviation.
  13. Congrats, mate! You might be able to listen to your broadcast via LiveATC's archives. "http://www.liveatc.net/archive.php". Just choose your airfield and the timeframe in which your flight occurred. Cheers.
  14. Excellent post inspired by an even better prequel, Chris. Thank you for sharing the details. Very useful to know.
  15. Wow! Did you see it on 7 news this evening? It was played over about three or four times including some different angles and close-ups. Really fascinating, the dynamics involved. Good stuff that no-one was hurt.

    FIB'ing

How's about this for a great time?
  17. That's really great. Did you see all the weather and hazards educational material in the Knowledge Centre? Gold!
  18. 1. My neighbour knocked on my door at 2:30 this morning, can you believe that? 2:30am? Luckily for him I was still up playing my Bagpipes. 2. The Grim Reaper came for me last night, and I beat him off with a vacuum cleaner. Talk about Dyson with death. 3. Paddy says, "Mick, I'm thinking of buying a Labrador. "Really?" says Mick "have you seen how many of their owners go blind?" 4. I saw a poor old lady fall over today on the ice!! At least I presume she was poor - she only had $1.20 in her purse. 5. My girlfriend thinks that I'm a stalker... Well, she's not exactly my girlfriend yet. 6. Woke up last night to find the ghost of Gloria Gaynor standing at the foot of my bed. At first I was afraid then I was petrified. 7. The wife has been missing a week now. Police said to prepare for the worst. So I have been to the charity shop to get all her clothes back. 8. A mate of mine admitted to being addicted to brake fluid. When I quizzed him on it he reckoned he could stop any time. 9. I went to the cemetery yesterday to lay some flowers on a grave. As I was standing there I noticed 4 grave diggers walking about with a coffin, 3 hours later and they're still walking about with it. I thought to myself, "These guys have lost the plot!" 10. My daughter asked me for a pet spider for her birthday, so I went to our local pet shop and they were $70. "Blow this," I thought, "I can get one cheaper off the web." 11. Statistically, 6 out of 7 dwarves are not happy. 12. I was at an ATM yesterday when a little old lady asked if I could check her balance, so I pushed her over. 13. I start a new job in Seoul next week. I thought it was a good Korea move. 14. I was driving this morning when I saw an NRMA van parked on the side of the road. The driver was sobbing uncontrollably and looked very miserable. I thought to myself, "That guy's heading for a breakdown." 15. I just met a fat, alcoholic, transvestite. He wants to eat, drink, and be Mary.
  19. G'day Peter, I installed it to give it a go (trial period) and must say - not impressed. It always crashed on me while I was downloading maps (on WiFi) and I could not actually get into the app itself. Unfortunately for them, I'm one one those kind of customers that try something out before buying; and if it don't work 100% after a little bit of self-troubleshooting - I'll dump it quick as, and won't look back. However, everybody's experience will be different. You should install it yourself and see how it goes for you. Good luck.
  20. Beee-yoo-tiful work! He made it look like a breeze. I wonder how it felt to be a passenger though.
  21. Now this looks like fun ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgdIE2t8QkM
  22. By jingo! Fantastic picture. It looks like from one of those movies where the giant spaceship appears through the clouds! I think it was "Independence Day".
  23. Hm. I wonder if its any problem to convert from an LSA to one of those ? Great video - nice take on an obviously difficult job to do.
