  1. Hmm. Thanks, but that doesn't seem to make sense since they seem to then proceed to walk directly behind the plane, in the line of the jet blast; and at least one of them bent over like he enjoys having jet blast up his behind?
  2. Excellent! Hope you don't mind my asking - whats with the bending over just after handing off the plane?
  3. Yeah! The takeoff had me thinking he's going to prang right there. Good skill or crazy luck?
  4. Yes it is, Maj. Well spotted. I see they also have a SAAB Viggen or Gripen there at the bottom too. The Mirages are legendary jet fighters.
  5. Thanks, gents. Don, I did track down Peter's email and now, based on your response, I feel very much encouraged to contact him and see how we go. Cheers,
  6. Hi all, I'm having a strange problem that involves my David Clark X11 headset and I'm hoping that someone here may be able to help. Lately, using my headset, when I press the transmit button everybody on the frequency hears this high-pitched squealing noise. This is obviously untenable and my instructor has to do the radio work for me. We've tried all the different switch settings, the same happens with or without the batteries. It was intermittent the week before but yesterday I could not get it to work at all. I'm not sure if I can just send it in since I bought it second hand from someone and I don't have the original receipt. It is out of warranty - assuming its a standard 1 year. Thanks in anticipation.
  7. I just received this one. "http://www.pilotworkshop.com/tips/pilot_staying_ahead.htm" Very pertinent for low-time flyers like me.
  8. Crikey! What a snap pic #2 is. Yes - hope they're ok. Pic #1 looks as if the photographer was hanging out the side of the plane. I wonder what was going through those two gents' minds ?
  9. Mate, have you seen the aircraft parked at any airport in GE ? If your observations are correct, they're all fake. Take a look at Heathrow - looks like a major shopping centre parking lot. I find it a bit interesting trying to track the line along the runway looking for the furthest aircraft taking off away from / landing towards the runway. Cheers,
  10. No mate, it was Afrikaans or Sooth-effrican. Do you need a translation?
  11. Golly! Where was he going to or coming from at such a low altitude? I don't see any airstrips nearby.
  12. Hey, that's the same guy who "crashed" his plane and had a frog for witness. Everybody was clearly having a great time flying around there. Very nice video.
  13. Excellent video. Really enjoyed that one. It might be stating the obvious but one also needs to ensure that the aircraft is capable of sustained inverted flight before practicing this.
  14. Sounds great, like you're having a lot of fun. Goodonya, mate!
  15. Ah, fantastic! Wow, an interesting article. Some things haven't changed and yet others have changed dramatically. Thanks for sharing, mate. A worthwhile effort.
  16. Well, this freak knows how to zoom but its still illegible - the jaggies just make it too hard to read. You need to scan it to a bigger format with about 150dpi. Cheers,
  17. G'day all, I was browsing through a USA aviation mag today and came across an advert posted by their ASA. Most of us might know that they produce a range of study material and exam preparation guides. What I'm really interested in is their Prepware for Sport Pilot app for the iPhone/iPad, but I don't know whether learning from this "Prepware" would be useful towards my general knowledge and studies for RA-Aus based exams (I guess it's their equivalent of our BAK Test). It's not expensive ($10.50) for such a good looking app but I don't want to fill my head with irrelevant info that may confuse me if its in conflict with the Aussie way. Anybody able to provide guidance? FAA Sport Pilot Prepware akin to RA-Aus BAK; or not? Thanks in anticipation.
  18. Flash! Channel 7 News is going to have a skit on his flight over Sydney this evening at 6. The headline preview looked fantastic.
  19. Crikey! I'm not knowledgeable in jump-craft ops but I began to think perhaps it was an intentional trick for extreme parachuting. Those guys up front looked very calm and didn't look as if they were doing anything - not even to recover. They were lucky the craft didn't go beyond Vne and break apart with the G's.
  20. G'day mate. You might do yourself a favour and head over to some of the mainstream FSX forums rather than ask here where we tend to be more inclined toward the real thing. Nothing wrong with asking here, but I think you won't get as much joy here as you would on the FSX focused sites. There's tons of information about hardware setups, recommended settings, tweaks, opinions... The lot. Three great resources I often refer to are : AvSim, Orbx-FTX and SimForums. You may even need to start modding your fsx.cfg file! Now that I mention it - did you delete the 'fsx.cfg' file before next starting up FSX after installing your new card? FSX will build a new one based on the system specs it detects. However, rather than delete it, just rename it to fsx.bak1 or something, then start FSX up. You'll be surprised how a fresh cfg file will spice things up. To answer your question in a nutshell - FSX doesn't do Crossfire or SLI. A single high-powered card is the best. What FSX really craves is CPU power and speed, plenty of high-speed, low latency RAM (4GB is standard) and lots of VRAM (at least 1024MB). Your mileage will vary however - everybody's machine and setup is different. There are a hundredfold more variables than answers. Good luck and enjoy the hobby.
  21. Good stuff, mate. The first step is always the most exciting - you actually don't come down from the high for days. May you go from strength to strength.
  22. I've just managed to read mine today and, yes, it is very good. A giant step forward compared to the old format. I especially enjoyed the "aircraft under $80k" article. Very useful reading for budding first-time aircraft owners like me. (I agree with Don Ramsay's comments but one has to take articles like that with a pinch or two of salt). Congrats, mag team! Cheers,
