  1. How do you know ? Your an astro naut are you ?

All work and no play ..... so they say ,

Back when jabiru first started ; one of the first kits , made by the the "tooth fairy " at Bundaberg , the local ABC radio interviewed him and " cookie " his mate ,

They are both on record and went on air sitting in the half completed fuse making all sorts of airplane noises to there harts content .

They did complete it , and went on to achive similar highs of excellence ,

We all carnt be an astronaut

  2. Engine temps would have been low as it wasn't long after warm up , unsure about EGTs , the engine is fitted with a intercooler thanks to the previous owner so the air box temps are always low . I realize it was poor fuel but wondered what was happening internally ,once I eased the throttle back it ran OK ,only seemed to falter in the boost range. Thanks for the input.

Are the intercoolers a common Mod . on these engines , ???

  3. If it runs better with fresh fuel , good bet its the fuel .

Ive had similar issues with stale &or contaminated 95 & 98 , ive gon back to avgas , and have resolved the build up of crud by running a tank of fress mogas when its available and i'm about to do a lot of flying .

I will pull the heads off at 200 hrs anywhoo. This isnt a rotax , LCH 3300 jab . Same issues with the cooler running heads .

I found by draing tanks and leaving them dry for longish periods the fuel lines tend to dry out and on one occasion i had fuel leaks when i filled up again

I leave a few litrs of avgas in the tanks ( fibro glass ) metal tanks are kept full , keeps everything moist .

  4. Mike, thanks for the info here. The EM-5 systems have full fuel and spark capability. If you have a fuel only D system, it could be reflashed and have some wiring and components added to run the ignition as well. Alternately, you could use the CPI to do the spark control.

I guess that means posting the computer back to you to be reflashed ??

I tried a couple weeks ago to buy the ign. Mod . off the SDS site , but our lousy internet sevice is ....... Well???

Since then ive had car $ issues , but might be a good time to send the unit back to SDS this winter , be ready for christmas .!

    Mike .

  5. The Avocet runs well with the SDS efi .those figures and fuel savings are correct ,

There is a HUGE difference in the fuel economy and power increase and smooth running EGT spread within 50deg .

Compared to carby ? Heaps better .

Im going to order the ignition module from SDS , as soon as ive replaced the clutch , gearbox & tranfer box on the Discovery !!! Cars , who needs em !!?

    Mike .

  6. Aeroshell sport plus 4This morning I gave the wire on the sensor a little wiggle and couldn't get the pressure below 3 bar today. Could it have just been a connection problem?

All seemed to be good today anyway, I change my oil and filter every 33 hours and only have 4 or so hours till then so will monitor the pressure till then and then do a good cut open and examine of the filter just to ensure nothing amiss. But after seeing it today I'm happy and not too worried, just seeing it yesterday lower than normal got me worried:blush:

Gees , no need for the red face ,

This IS exacly the safty culture that saves lives , and needs to be applauded .

You need to investigate evey abnormality and DONTasume any thing .

If only ide looked ! Famous last words , that only a few get to utter .

    Mike , still here ,

First time ive been able to post in a while !

    Cheers

  7. tried to edit this.....but missed the opurtunity.So.....i am in no way advocating my short field takeoffs technique as SAFE........it works for me, better experienced folks here may shoot me down, so be it.

Rod Stiff showed us that teqnique for short field takeoff , It didnt make it into the POH.

It works well in the LSA55 jab , key is not to dump the full flap to quickly, or to low!

In the J230 , if you rap the throttle to quick and lift the nose off to early you could (i did) end up making an unskedualed left hand turn !!
