Amazing video!

Thanks Thirsty! I liked your vid too. Great viewpoint. Is it stuck to the top of the fuel tank?
My Ego would start recording, I'd confirm it, only to shut down or lock up some time before I'd taxi to the threshold! Missing out on video of my Port Fairy approach/takeoff was the final straw. Also, the format the Contour outputs seems to be more efficient and my poor old laptop can cope with Hi-def editing. Not so with the Ego.
Yeah, the Chinese students can be challenging to understand at times, but you get used to what they're saying. A handful that have gone through the academy have had textbook radio technique! Others... not so much.
Duck: the Drift looks nice, but for less than $300 the Contour does what I need. Some extra features would always be nice, though!

Well, the Ego failed me too many times! I think it doesn't like the heat when in direct sunlight - hard to avoid in a bubble-canopied-low-wing!
I went a purchased a Contour Roam 2. Took it out for a burl yesterday. It was hot when I took it down, but it didn't skip a beat!
The Ego might still come in handy as a second camera. Just a pity, really!

Thanks camo, glad you enjoyed it!Great report Evan! Keep them coming! -
Thanks everyone!
Kaz, yeah thanks! I see what you mean. That photo really does makes it look just like the rope is straight down. I was a bit worried myself that we'd done it wrong, but from another angle it shows the rope forward and slightly out from the fuselage. Thanks for the reminder!

A few weeks ago I flew the Tecnam down to visit friends at Port Fairy that stay for a week each January. It was a great trip, my first landing on an ALA and first time I left an aircraft for more than a few minutes.
Many more pics and full story at my blog.

Great to hear you've made it down safely (been a bit blustery here too!).
This is the place we go to!

I think Grampians and 12 Apostles are the main attractions out here.
If you drop into Ballarat, feel free to give me a buzz. We can go and get some good coffee.
Cheers,
Evan
[Edit] just saw the posts in between. Still, if you are in the area.

Good coffee and cafes in Ballarat.
Also, be aware of the future works at Lethbridge. Check with their website or phone before coming down. :-)

Hi Terry,
I've never operated in or out of Peterborough, but from Google Earth it looks like a nice little place to pop in to. Other options could be Apollo Bay (nice and close to the township) or even Ballarat for an intermediate stop.
Let me know when you're in the area. Maybe we could catch up?
Cheers,
Evan

Hey Marty, I'm not sure about the building side of things but as for the licencing either ones (CASA or RA-Aus) will allow you to do what you describe. With RA-Aus once you have completed your cross country endorsement, aside from controlled airspace you can fly wherever you want day VFR.Flying training: what are the options? When I finish building, I'd like to be able to park my plane at a local strip and jump in and fly when I want. Probably do some long cross-country trips occasionally. What sort of licence would I need - guessing there's an equivalent of PPL - and again are there any flying instructors in southern Tas? -
The prop looks like large paddles!thank you, that is absolutely fascinating. Among other things, they went to huge trouble to silence the engine. I think this could be done much better with little increase in weight (carbon fibre) but it would probably add a lot of cost. -
I read about this amazing Vietnam aircraft some months back. Looks like it can be done, but many compromises must be made!
A great history of it's development can be found here:

Hey Ian, I did spy the sim through the glass doors. It's quite an impressive build!
-
Hi Vev! Will do. Thanks for the invitation. Next time I'll schedule much more time so we don't have to turn around and leave when we just got there!
-
A beautiful day of flying!

It's been quite a while since BrilinAir took me down to experience the Apostles from the air. I've been keen to fly it as PIC ever since! A couple of weeks ago, I got to do it!
