  1. Ian is there anyway you could work with the developer Tony Nixon to get PitrexWXD decoder back up and running again. It is my opinion by far the best decoder as it actually shows the front lines and names of places on a map of Australia. It offers safer flying and is a tragedy that is no longer available. His number if it is still the same is 0415304201 would it be worth contacting him so it could be added to the weather tab. Cheers rick
  2. Just wondering if anyone has mounted an ipad in a j230. What mount was used and where the best place to mount the ipad in the plane. Any photos would be helpful. Cheers Rick

    Jabiru Brakes

Hi I am just about to put new brake pads on my j230. I have not heard about these new brakes from the US. Can you give some info on why they are better and what the cost is. Thanks Cheers
  4. Jetjr That is my understanding as well. Do you know anyone who has had a bolly prop on a six cyl. I would have thought if ther are 31 props out there someone by now would have replied to my thread by now.
  5. I am thinking of putting a bolly prop on our j230. I have had problems with Jab and Bret thompson wood props. I like the idea of not having a wood prop that will be subject to weather conditions and that will be tougher as far as stone chips go and is adjustable. I called in to the factory at bolly today to have a look. They showed me paper work that shows there are currently 31 bolly props on Jabs. So Iam looking for feed back from owners who have bolly props on j230s or other aircraft with direct drive.

  7. Having trouble with Avmet I am once again having trouble tying to access the Avmet site. Has the address change again. I am using www.pemet.com.au/ Can anyone help. Cheers Rick
  8. Nick Have used the 1/8 copper works well. Will be alot easier to change plugs. Cheers Rick
  9. Nick Just wondering what holds the probe into the hole between the plugs. Does the 1/8 copper make a tight fit or does heat paste fix it. Cheers Rick
  10. Have found a Us based company that supplied spark plugs delievered to Aussie for $9.18 Aus. The price will depend on the current exchange rate. His details are David Camp [email protected]
  11. EDMO Asia Pacific :: Products :: Quality And Excellence...What ever it takes Have a look at this site and look under swithes relays and mounts. Just wondering if you could install this panel lock to your unit. It would make it so much easier to get in and out because I quite often have to take it home to update the software. Can not understand why Jabiru would not put this in''''''''''''.
  12. Hi Just wondering do your avmaps come with a cradle mount. As I find it very simple (within seconds) to release my avmap from its cradle and take the unit home remove the card and update software. I have the avmap mounted in our J230. I am not sure what your problem is about removing it from the panel unles it is not mounted in the cradel. Cheers
  13. Are zulu the only headset that have bluetooth capability. Is it possible to buy an add on to give headsets blue tooth to any headset.
  14. Tried a set of zulus yesterday to see if the bluetooth would work with a new Sony ericsson phone. (As all the latest mobile phones only have bluetooth as axillary to use to connect to other devices they no longer have a place to plug in device to be able to hear through headsets and guess what Zulu are the only headset at this stage which have bluetooth capabilities and they have a patent on this.) Anyway while the phone would pair with the zulu and I could hear incoming ring I could not talk or hear or make a call. So I rang Lightspeed in the US this morning to find out that they have had problems with certain phones but they have made changes and any zulu purchased in the last 9 months should be okay. The set I tried was about 12 months old and worked okay with nokia phones.
  15. Ian I spoke to AreoShop. They no longer have the Zulus at $1080. Thet are now $1295 (currently out of stock)Apparently the manufacture was giving a discount while there was a down turn but now can not keep up with the orders so price has returned to normal.
  16. I just logged in with password to pilot briefing area and clicked on area briefing. Ian it would also be handy to be able to get restricted area briefing as well. Cheers Rick
  17. Can anyone tell me why if accessing Area briefing through Recreational Flying and selecting say area 50 that it does not give all the TAF and Metar that you get when accessing the weather through Air Services. Murray Bridge is just one of them that is not on the Recreational Flying web site. Despite both sites looking very similar.

  20. Just out of interest the presenter of the seminar official title was Aviation Safety Advisor Adel & SA and last year before starting with CASA was in charge of the largest flight school out of Parafield. Part of his role is to travel Aust talking about uncontrolled AD so you would think he should know what he is on about. I do not necessarily believe he agreed with the rule but was definite that it is against the rules to overfly even 500' above circuit height. This was a shock to most who attended. The theory being that we should know the wind direction before we arrive. Cheers Rick
  21. The other night the I attended a presenatation from Airservices about controlled air space as well as a CASA re non towered AD. What was suprising to many of us was that we can not over fly an AD to look at wind socks or indeed to see if the AD is servicable. Also that you can ONLY join the circuit from 45degrees downwind or crosswind midfield or a straight in approach. You can not join from a long down wind. Just interested if others are aware of the above. Cheers Rick
  22. I am a new pilot and like Motz have beeen concerned that if overflying an air field ( which when landing at a new strip I preffer to do) at 1500 AGL you are at the same height as the high performance aircraft. Am I correct? and if so should this be changed so there is a less of a chance of conflict. Also I know it is an extra expense but I guess when flying into aerodromes that have regular RPT it proably worth having a transponder.
  23. "Service Letter" from jabiru high oil Temps After contacting Jabiru about my concern with high oil temps. Yesterday I received a email and an attachment from Jabiru advising a service Letter JSL 004-1 to to address probems with engine and high oil temps. They have addressed cowl modifications to improve air flow, removal of gull wing baffles, changes to oil cool ducts, cowl inlet modification and oil levels and dipstick range. I assume this will be avaiabkle on Jabiru web site shortly.
  24. Update Some improvement oil TEMP J230 ****!!!!!!! This the second time I have have tried to write this and each time I have lost it - so third time lucky. I now have my wife typing this as it takes me all day with one finger typing. First, thank you for all the responses to our problem. We have checked all the wiring and the earths and all appears to be okay and no change to the oil temperature. We purchased our factory built Jabiru in Feb this year 07 and it was one of the first planes to have a lip attached to the bottom cowl. It was screwed to the bottom cowl unlike the later models such as Brent C which are part of the fibreglass mouldings. We have a new J230 in the hangar which has the larger moulded lip and bigger hole in the bottom cowl. We have now tried increasing the size of the hole of the bottom cowl to improve the airflow. The good news is this has slightly improved the oil temperature but is still too high for our liking in moderate to hot outside temperatures. Our real concern remains why weren't we having problems back in Feb when temperatures were hotter and the motor brand new. We checked the service records and earlier in the year we were having trouble with oil pressure as it was always running just in the yellow. After consulting Jabiru we tried several different things and finally by changing the sender this fixed the problem. However one of the fix's suggested by Jabiru was to increase the oil pressure by adding a washer to the relief valve. At our first attempt adding one washer this increased the pressure too high to the point where the motor would not start. I assume the high oil pressure meant that the hydraulic tappets would not totally close causing the motor not to run. We tried a thinner washer which slightly increased the pressure and we were able to start the motor but it wasn't until we replaced the sender the problem was totally solved. So now we are thinking like Don C that this higher oil pressure could be affecting the hydraulic tappets and causing the motor not to run at its optimum and maybe contributing to our problem of high oil temperatures. So we plan to try and remove the washer and reduce the oil pressure to see if this could help solve the high oil temp.
  25. Changes to cowl Squadron Leader Just wondering what year your jab was built and whether you have have done any mods to the cowls or venting too oil cooler that would help the oil temp.
