  1. maybe so, but who wants an airplane to go down on them?
  2. well she made it safely to orbit. there will be only 4 more shuttle launches now before the fleet is retired, and the US will then have no means of transporting humans into space for the forseeable future ( other than as paying pax on Russian Soyuz). Who would have thought that when we watched Neil Armstrong walk on the moon 40 years ago. It will be a sad day indeed when the last shuttle flight lands at Kennedy space center late next year.
  3. Well bad luck for Narromine but they have had it for 13 years so perhaps its time for a change. Unfortunately I never got to Narromine but Temora is a bit closer to home, and I hope to get to next years show. Terry
  4. Hi Amy and welcome Be sure to tell us about your lessons Terry
  5. Howdy Apollo 11, welcome to the forum. nice call sign. Im about your age give or take a year or 2 and I reckon watching Apollo 11 live as a 9 year old, started my interest in aviation and all things science. I can still remember it was lunch time and I was in grade 3. Never give up the dream of flying it is easy to make excuses like paying off the house and getting the kids through school, I used to do that too, then I turned 40 ( midlife crisis) and just said what the heck I am going to do this and I did.
  6. yeh 2 weeks in a row. Im getting used to it. dunno how I'd go if they do that to me in the granny though.
  7. Thanks guys, I did have a great day and looking forward to the big five O next year Terry

    Hi!

Welcome to the forum avy8or and good luck with the PPL test. just recently finished CPL exams myself , but will be a while before I sit the flight test. Im in no great hurry as its not really a career goal for me just wanting to keep learning and having a goal to aim for helps. This is a good place to ask any questions, plenty of experience around and very friendly. Terry
  9. Great pics Darren Especially like the one with the moon in it. I love aerochutes too. I wish you could hire them! I did go for a trial flight with Steve Conte ( I think thats his name) who owns the aerochute company. A group of them used to fly out of a property in Werribee between Geelong and Melbourne and I would see them every Tuesday morning on the way to work. I couldnt help taking a little detour one day, and next thing, there I was hanging around at 500 ft watching the cows and feeling the breeze in my face. There is really something special about sitting out in the open like that seeing the world go by. Terry
  10. Coop I think I can see 2 NS airfields with the one to the east being shorter, it looks like the bottom half is dark and the top half lighter green. I have flown over it many times but didnt realise there were 2 NS runways. Torquay as far as I know is privately owned and used for commercial joy flights and skydiving. There is no club activity and you cannot hire aircraft from there, purely charter and joy flights only. Of course only 4 nm to the NE is Barwon Heads which is the home of the Geelong Aero club and where myself and Crash Lander fly out of. It caters for both GA and RAA. If you wanted to drop in at Barwon Heads you,the Navigator and Dorothy are sure to be well looked after. Geelong airport at Mt Duneed is also close by and quite busy, but I believe the land has been sold off to developers and the airfield has about 2 years to live. All 3 airfields share the same CTAF ( 119.0) Terry
  11. Huh? I cant even read it, its not in English
  12. Good news Steve. my wife also is not overly keen but have taken her up a couple of times when weather is exceptional. Same with my 2 daughters, I have taken them both up but they would rather go shopping than flying.... girls hmmph.! so is that Jab syndicate working out as you hoped? Terry
  13. Welcome aboard Michael. You will certainly find a more welcoming administration on this site.
  14. Assuming its real ( I have seen so many fake videos lately) its hard to understand how that can happen with ( presumably ) 2 experienced flight crew on board. I know in the Cessnas I always tend to way overestimate how long my wings are. Like I will be worried about crashing into the fuel shed, when in reality I will be 3 or 4 meters clear. Perhaps others tend to underestimate?
  15. Hi Zenonie Hope you find your instructor. How long have you got before your BFR expires ? Your station got added to the AUSNAV flight planner by the way. It sure is a long way from anywhere!
  16. Hi Tim 30 isnt old any more. Not sure what the age limit is for general entry pilots in the armed forces is these days. Have you ever considered that route to flying? If you are determined to do it the GA way I would do what others have suggested and pay your own way through the PPL or even RAA which is cheaper, then look at your options if you still feel the pull. If you do ever go down the path of borrowing money, a big risk especially with the present economic situation, there are some schools where they guarantee you some work at the end, subject to satisfactory performance.
  17. I should have added my thanks to Glenn for allowing the link to AUSNAV. I have just been banned from another avaition forum because I would not allow them to have the program on their download page. ( even though I was quite happy to email a copy to anyone who wanted it ). Whats more some other poor bugger who I emailed it to got banned for associating with such an evildoer as me. I'm a bad mann apparently.
  18. Thanks for the kind words Oz. Just a reminder to anyone using it , when you download it you will see the data page with the airport selection , winds , track , heading speed etc ( ie the flight plan) . If you do a page down you will see your route marked out on am outline map of Australia. I have already had a suggestion to put a button to toggle between data page and map, which I will do in the next update. In the meantime just use page up and page down to move between flight plan and map. Also, if you cant find an airport you want , email me and we will get it added to the list ... BUT in the meantime you can actually scroll across to the right where you will see the airfield list and at the very bottom of this list is a section where you can actually enter your own data for about 10 waypoints or airports. Terry
  19. what the plane or the pilot? Actually it doesnt look like the OzChris that I know.. way too much hair.
  20. doh .. I thought this RAA section was all new. but thats the big advantage of being a senile old fart like me... everythings always new.
  21. That is a sensational looking aircraft Oz, and the low wing version ( the shadow) looks even better. Any idea on the price? And it comes with a yoke as well! cos real pilots use a yoke! (only yoking ) Terry
