  1. An electric monowheels for each POB is a great tool to take on trips. just learn to ride with MC helmet & body armour before you get too adventurous offrosd or carrying your fuel bladders.

Was 11 years building, testing phase now, I never looked at the kit as having a value, put the cost down as like tuition fees, that way there is no financial pressure to finish, I will never sell my plane complete either, I learnt lots during the build. So there are some compromises built into it. Its safe, a bit heavy but not really upto some other peoples “finish” expectations so may part it out to help build next one if I ever get bored with it. about half my build time was building an auto conversion engine, silly idea for first build. But I do now have an aircraft that owes me $0. And is quite a bit of fun to fly now I sorted all the overtemp issues. Sometimes during the build I would not go near the it for months, just reckon if your heads not in the right space, better off doing something else for awhile. Reckon If you only planning to finish it to recoupe losses, better off quitting it now and let someone else finish it as they wish, you cannot really sell for more than parts value until all the flight testing is complete, I reckon this part is harder to get done than everything before.

  5. Cant see a problem with a bit of oil in the drum, Most Lycoming I've flown behind absolutely love burning oil, you can tell that by the amount that has to be added to the sump.
  6. A Patreon support style of allowing members to contribute is really what this site needs. Not just for now but for the rest of life of this site. Patreon is made to support Artists & Creators, Ian definately fits right into this description and deserves payment for his service to us members. If Ian required the support & guidance that Patreon provides then paying their 8 - 12% commission is warranted, otherwise, probably etter idea is to setup a similar system in clearprop that encourages members to join in supporting this site. I myself have in the past donated to this site and purchased goods from clearprop, albeit I fear way too infrequently to give just reward for what is gained from this site. An option is for monthly donations that are direct debited, that way we do not forget to pay our dues. If every current member could give an initial $10 with $1/month ongoing it would do 2 things, firstly the $10 capitalises the site to an acceptable level and relieves much of Ian’s stress, we can looks at this payment as past dues. Ie what should have already been donated. The $1/month pays the running costs, including payment to Ian for his input, and possibly enough to allow for a succession plan for the site rather than letting it die when Ian wishes to retire. Now I know you cannot force all members to contribute, but it would be nice if they did, maybe a rewards system could also be setup in clearprop as an enticement. where donating members earn points (RecPoints) that can be used to redeem on goods through clearprop. Would be much better than trying to generate sales by having very low margins on items. This way we are effectively buying ourselves presents in advance but more importantly providing the capital required to run this site. If more funds are generated over time than Ian feels comfortable with, can always give extra points back to supporters. Consistent gold supporters from the past maybe should be rewarded to a slightly higher level than the rest of us if Ian did decide to follow this route.

  8. Sailplane hours count towards CPL, and are fun & very cheap to accumulate. Also adds a level of skill that those afraid to turn the noise off never appreciate.
  9. Divide total cost by hours flown = cost per hour. In reality, double the planned costs & halve the planned hours

  11. No antiques here. I have efis + separate electronic sensors tee'd into pitot & static, no problem as pressure is pressure. just be aware every extra join is a potential leak. otherwise, if your going IFR or think ice or bugs could routinely block a pitot, may justify separate sources.

  14. Nah your wrong! Registering IP is only worth what your prepared to pay defending it. Total waste for most. And probably AOPA’s position when they started using it. This little episode will probably circulate some funds from the organisations to the lawyers to help put some fuel in their tanks. Would be interesting to know if the initial idea to register came from RAAus legal advisors, maybe their piggybank needs topping up. would have totally understood the ramifications of this little bit of drama.

Does not matter the method of refueling, there is always an area around the refueling point that is at the correct AFR for combustion, the trick to make it safe to not have possibility for static discharge at that point. Pouring fuel from a plastic jerrycan into a wing is high risk, especially just after flight or transport of fuel as that is when static is greatest, and its not really possible to effectively ground the container as you are holding it to pour. You’ve always got your fire extinguisher handy & ready to go so it wont be a disaster if you are unlucky enough to ignite, just dont panic, carefully place the container down & cover openings in wing & jerry, that fuel will self extiguish from lack of oxygen, just have to put out the fire from spilt fuel with the extinguisher.

  17. Agree & if RPT weighed passengers with their luggage, would not take long for general public to accept/understand W&B is critical for flying contraptions.
  18. Remember to try to allow for grounding fuel container to plane, pumping fuel and air creates static which should be dissipated, so a cable with clips both ends will ground container to plane. If the conductive tube inside the the container is not submerged in the fuel, solder a wire to run inside the flex tube reaching down to bottom of container. A spark from static electricity should not be under-estimated, but it is easy to prevent if everything is properly grounded.
  19. Matt. Your more likely to reduce life of pump with a 12v battery as volts will always be less than optimum. If the pump was in a vehicle it would be operating at 14v as that is what the alternator is putting out. Pump will have a watt rating but depending on manufacturer may be hard to find. V x A = W .so basically protect the pump with a lower amp fuse when using higher Volts and you will be fine. Pressure will cause pump to pull more amps so size hose large enough to carry flow without backpressure and suction side as short as possible
  20. From the one thing that is not off. Do you have a multimeter handy & know how to use it?
  21. For pump power, could use cordless drill battery. Cut the handle off & chuck the motor, mount handle to fuel cart so you got handy battery holder when in use. 14-18v better than 12v for pump & fuel flow.
