  1. Tested my radio flying around the top end of Cape Morton today and pleased with the result. Thanks for facilitating this Mark. Greg
  2. Hi Geoff This is what Rotax has to say about your query: Avgas places greater stress on valve seats due to the lead content and forms deposits in the combustion chamber and lead sediment in the oil. It should only be used in cases of problems with vapor lock or when other types of gasoline are unavailable. The consequences of using avgas are as follows: Normal oil change interval 100hrs If avgas is used for more than 30% of time between oil change then the frequency of oil and filter change reduces to 50hrs. Sadly it dosent end there. If your overall operation uses avgas more than 30% of the time and you have a series 3 gearbox (overload clutch) then that gearbox inspection will be required at 600hrs and not 1000hrs. Other than those minor irritations you're good to go. Most 912 operators do 50 hr oil changes anyway. I am one of those which takes care of the occasions I use avgas. Hope this helps Greg
  3. Mate here you go, saved the best advice for last !! Use the maintenance maual. You can't sign out in your maintenance log "Prop torqued in accordance with recreational flying forum"
  4. Tracktop, Kaz is probably talking about Sentient airnav which as everyone knows does have the oz maps, you clearly said Air Nav Pro which I would agree with you does not have current aus maps. Two different programs entirely.
  5. Gday Burt I have an Idrovaria HS2 and it could be the same prop you have as I recognise the AVY2 fitted to an Alpi 300 with a hydraulic constant speed unit and would also be looking for overhaul manuals, parts etc in the not too distant future, I"ve got 50 hrs on mine at the moment so not needing an overhaul just yet. The only document I got with the prop/hub assembly as supplied installed on the aircraft was a prop and hub log book and installation manual as supplied by my Aus dealer. I might add the installation manual has no information on maintenance. My sugestion is to contact the Idrovario manufacturer from their website as they list prices for blades etc. at http://www.alisport.com/eu/eng/index.html They should be able to supply an overhaul manual or approach your Tecnam dealer. Sorry I could not be of more help but thought I"d let you know that manuals apparently are not supplied with the prop/hub assemblys as I suspect the manufacturer would prefer the units be returned for overhaul, this is speculation on my part. I would expect there would be NDT required on the hub assemblys and possibly the blade cuffs and MPI inspections on the hardware or replacement. Greg
  6. Some are more persistant than others !!! Hope the link works.
  7. I'd add that constant speed would be a good idea to take better advantage of a cleaner airframe with the gear packed away, nothing like being able to change gears when theres a benefit to be had. With regards wing thickness to house the gear, cant agree with a previous post, check the Alpi 300 wing, narrow wheels do the job.
  8. chiefaircraft.com have a United instrument #UTD5934PM3 which is TSOd for$895
  9. Whats happened to the 2nd photo Spin, the best of the 2 in my opinion ?
  10. Its not in the 495 database, so unlikely in the 196/296/496.
  11. Thats a great bit of practical information right there. Much appreciated.
  12. Top bolt, top of left windshield panel
  13. Toowoomba, Kingaroy and Southport on the Gold Coast but you'll need an invertation for that one !
  14. Thats correct thats what I said, overfly height. No other reference to a vertical height other than the 3000ft 5nm as "most hazardous area ". Its a circuit overfly minimum vertical limit in that reference. Greg
  15. You're quit correct Motz, 3000ft and 5 nm is the height mentioned in Caap 166-1 as "the most hazardous area of an aerodrome" but is not a mandated limit. The only reference is under the heading of hazards which states a minimum overfly height should be no lower than 2000ft. This is directed at general aviation pilots operating at aerodromes with runways of 1400m or more in length that may have turboprop or jet operations. So effectively there is a minimum vertical limit. Greg
  16. 3000Ft if my memory serves me correctly. Greg
  17. Whats the viagara for, keep the sheets off your legs ? Greg
  18. Actually designed in America by Wayne Ison and will be built in China the way I read it
  19. For all those avid readers or those with partners that are avid readers. Every trip to Narromine or Temora or any extended flyaway always resulted in my better half taking along at least 3 books of at least 500 pages. Out of interest I put one on a kitchen scale the other day and discovered it weighed in at just on a kg. Thats not an insignificant amount of weight to cart around so one of the gifts I gave my wife is an eReader. Weighs 180g is less than 10mm thick so will fit into any side pocket in the aircraft and with 32gig of loadable books should keep her reading most of the way to Temora and back. If you're a member of your local library the books are free and here in Brisbane the library as well as our local Redlands library have literally hundreds of ebooks on loan aside from those you can purchase online. These eReaders use eInk which is very different to reading on an LCD screen so may be worth considering if weights a concern. Greg
  20. Well done Motz, I think a chat is a good idea, he young enough to be impressionable. Success is not going somewhere in a $60 000 airplane and back in a $200 000 bus Good luck Josh
  21. Thanks Tomo, it must be the 300 cause I want the retract as well. Just out of interest why do you say "Interesting on approach with flap out" Regards Greg
  22. When you say the Hawk Tomo is that the Alpi 300 you"ve been flying. Reason I"m asking is wouldent mind getting a conversion on it if the dealers got one in Dalby. Been wet in Brisbane too. Regards Greg
  23. Responce from CASA Maintenance of PPL "If I have a ppl and an Raaus certificate and keep my medical current but only do BFR's in 19 registered Raaus aircraft every 2 years does that keep my PPL current? IE I can fly in controlled airspace etc." After numerous calls to current RAAUS CFI's, RAAUS office and emails to Mick Poole(no reply yet) produced conflicting responces I contacted CASA licencing and was able to talk to a Senior Assesor who without hesitation supplied the following responce to my question above. Yes a PPL can be maintained by doing BFR's in an RAAUS aircraft (HP) only if it is done by a Current CASA approved GA Instructor that also holds an RAAUS certificate. The question was asked in relation to doing the BFR in 19 registered aircraft. It goes without saying if the RAAUS aircraft is VH registered then obviously no problem. This answered my question, just thought I'd share what I learnt. Regards Greg
  24. So still no consensis. The question rephrased. Can you do a GA AFR in a 19 registered aircraft? Or Will your RAAUS BFR allow you to exercise all the privilages of a ppl without doing a GA AFR. Thanks for the replies Regards Greg
  25. So to take the explanation a step further, you can't do BFRs in a Jabiru and then fly in controlled airspace unless the PPL BFR has been done in a GA aircraft. A current medical is not sufficient without the above. Clear as to me Regards Greg
