  1. I'm baaaaaaack! Reminds me of a Jack Nicholson movie :)
  2. The Emergency Warning Network (EWN) has upgraded their service - I continue to get useful reports for locations where I live or fly - and their services are now also being tailored for businesses and enterprises needing special alerts, network warnings and incident reponse. Worth another look... https://www1.ewn.com.au/alerts/2010-03-15-005600-13641-865/alert.aspx
  3. G'day Zordah, welcome. Don't forget to take a trip to Darling Downs Soaring Club near Jondaryan, W of Toowoomba. Gliding experience and soaring, weather flying skills will have a positive effect on your power flying skills too - and you never know you might get hooked there too...
  4. I have been to the Temora Aviation Museum website - unfortunately there is no new program information yet as to which aircraft are planned to be flying on these Aircraft Showcase Days. I know everyone wants to see the Spitfires flying - but for example I would like to get my father there for a day when the Canberra bomber is flying, given the years he spent maintaining them in his RAF career. I hope this sort of aircraft specific information is available soon.
  5. G'day Kaye, it was great to meet you and the other AYA - Grumman owners at Tumut. It's a pity Saturday was IMC and I had to leave FXR at home dry in her hangar - it was a good social gathering though. Traipsing through Tumut Falling Leaf Festival in the rain and mud, strolling through Adelong, all good fun. Many thanks also to Dave and glenyce Francis for their local hospitality and showing us their Tumut hangar and lovely RV7 VH-ZEE.
  6. Have been away, holiday season and flying my new ASW20L sailplane. Grumman AA5 still in for mods. Flying the Tecnam too :-)
  7. Great report aviatrix, lotsa fun. I hope I can bring my foxy lady (FXR) for a run with you guys sometime next year. She is at Yarrawonga for cowl flap mods and preventive maintenance on a fuel tank, before it becomes a problem. I miss her...
  8. G'day Westfallen, welcome and I hope your plans work out well. Other links - Don't forget PPRUNE Professional Pilots Rumour Network, free registration, check out the Dunnunda and Godzone threads and the Ground Crew section too. http://www.pprune.org/index.php Business Victoria may be able to get you new contacts - see http://www.business.vic.gov.au/BUSVIC/STANDARD/PC_51120.html and also http://www.business.vic.gov.au/busvicwr/_assets/main/lib60233/aerospace%20and%20aviation%20brochure.pdf Australian Defence Magazine ADM Directory of Defence Suppliers has a bunch of aerospace contacts - see http://www.defencesuppliers.net.au/ They have a gold mine of links here http://www.defencesuppliers.net.au/links Good luck and happy landings Wingnut
  9. Wow! The letter from CASA's Director of Aviation Safety is worth reading. Link to the .pdf file is here at http://www.auf.asn.au/notices/CASA_Director_Letter_20090731.pdf - so you can see why Lee Ungermann and his team want to continue negotiations without undue interference. I wonder what data and anayses are behind this...
  10. This was posted a while ago on YouTube under the title "Close Call" - the comments are numerous, some banal nonesense, some hilarious. Canberra airport, Rwy 17, before Brand Depot, new offices, new hangar, runway extension were built. A hairy takeoff and great commentary. "We have Schmirnoff!"
  11. This is our Grumman AA-5 Traveler, VH-FXR. Nice to fly, light and responsive, gallops along nicely.
  12. Just spent Sat and Sun am at Tumut, good fun, cloudy but smooth and picturesque. Had fun instructing in the Puchacz and then I took the DG303 for a flight... VH-DGA (Damn Good Aeroplane)
  13. I see you have a bunch of threads with Severe Thunderstorm Warnings etc for various states. Forum members may be interested in registering with the Australian Early Warning Network (EWN) which provides free emails and/or SMS and/or phone messages to subscribers for selected locations. As an aviator and as a weathernut, this is a very good service when you are away from your computer, or on the airfield with only a mobile phone or Blackberry. You can also submit severe weather reports. Have a bo-peep on http://www.ewn.com.au/ and see what you think. Happy landings
  14. Wave soaring fun in the weather factory!
  15. Hi folks, I thought I would join your esteemed company, TAA looks like a good group As per my handle I am a bit of a Wingnut. I have been a gliding and soaring pilot for 39 years, am a very keen gliding instructor and cross country and wave soaring enthusiast. I also joined the darker side in 2003, am a PPL(A) GA pilot with a half share of a nice little Grumman AA-5 Traveler. I am also very happy occasionally flying Tecnams with the RA-Aus crowd. A Wingnut and a Weathernut, I am a real keen weather observer, weatherzoner and cloudspotter. It all comes with having soaring and flying in the blood. www.canberragliding.org is my home club website, along with http://canberra-aeroclub.com.au/cac/. Apart from flying, there is nothing like a wee dram of fine whisky to add value and a smile to life - Sliante!
