  1. Wish they'd had those when I was a kid!
  2. Here in the U.S., initial and operating/maintenance costs are what is hurting general aviation. I think GAJab's list is right on in this respect. IMHO, simplicity is what keeps costs down. No electric trim or flaps, no fancy, expensive "glass cockpits", and very durable engines and airframes. At least, that's what I would look for.
  3. Here in the U.S., mogas STC's don't allow any alcohol. That would be my biggest worry. Alcohol can damage hoses, aluminum fuel lines, o-rings and seals. I wouldn't allow it near my 170. Back in the 50's, Dad used to fuel the 170 from the farm tank - same one we fueled the Farmall's with. No problem without alcohol. Just IMHO.
  4. Hi Chainsaw. I'm new - this is just my second post. I am a believer, and know that prayer helps, so I will keep you in my prayers. It's a real bummer when your health is a problem. Keep doing what your doctors say - they know what to do. Wish you the best!
  5. Reminds me of the old Alan Funt movies. Funny!
  6. I found and love "The Swamp" comic strip by Gary Clark, and it got me wondering what general aviation is like in Australia. That led to finding this forum. I fly a Cessna 170 which was purchased new by my Father, and have had my license for 51 years. I'm looking forward to discussing aviation with all of you, and will be happy to answer any questions you may have about flying in the U.S.A.
