  1. Highly unlikely the air frame would fail with the vibration they were experiencing when you consider the air frame testing they go through now days. May have shortened its Fatigue life by a few hundred flights however. You could install a brake device, but that's one more thing that could fail.
  2. Another factor that may have played a part is Low Level Flying in moderate winds (gusts to 15knots) while keeping eyes on a fixed ground point and turning around that point. In this case he was down wind before the turn, possibly using ground speed as his reference. Experienced Alaskan Pilot, Shaun Lunt, also caught out by this scenario which ended in tragedy while circling a whale carcass in his Super Cub on a windy day in Alaska around 10years ago.
  3. Happened in my street. Power went out so I wandered outside to see the smoke coming up from the location. ABC has it pretty right.
  4. That cowl and nose leg looks familiar but the canopy and rear fuselage looks purpose built. A prototype drone / glider tug or spotter plane.
  5. If you get to the field and don't want to sign the paperwork you can always come for a ride in my 582 Rotax powered X-Air. No need for paperwork when you've got 2 stroke reliability up front.
  6. Hope the gear doors didn't get fowled by the trial fitted skid bar:blush:
  7. You don't want to use capsicum spray cause it could get in your eyes too.
  8. Interesting to know if the Pass. was a regular flyer and what altitude they were at.
  9. A mate sent me this image that he took while at an airport in Queensland. Anyone know about it?
  10. Don't think so Rank. I think the turtle deck was smooth like a Brumby.
  11. Thanks for your helpful suggestions. No it didn't look round (and no it didn't see me -Goons-). It was an aircraft not too different to a Brumby (not a brumby though) with retractable gear. thought it might be a one-off. I am interested in talking to the builder regarding the retract design.
  12. While at Temora, and I think it was Friday arvo,I spied a metal 19 Registered 2 place AC at takeoff and did not recognise it. Once airborne it retacted its gear. It was unpainted and I think unpolished. Anybody know what it was and who it belongs to?
  13. Very nice I know the model (although I had to look and see if it ended in a 5 or 6) so I won't say - except to say the company only ever made 1 helicopter.
  14. Here's a rare Bird Hi guys - Just spent 2 hrs reading through this thread and thought I'd add one. This one's a model but there are 2 real ones out there.
  15. Found this web site - just remember these people are selling the VGs :) StolSpeed Aerodynamics - Performance Enhancement for Light Aircraft
  16. There is a speed wing option (I Think) for that model with a higher stall speed - Might want to check its not that wing. Changing the flap to a slotted flap (lot of engineering) can change the Coefficient of lift from around 1.6 to 1.8. although its not all about overall lift and the Ailerons and empennage controls also need to have enough authority to land it. One simple option may be to use VGs to reduce stall by 2 knots - someone in the world has probably used them on a 601 and could give you an answer.
  17. trevorp I did sign up for Vatsim. While it was good, it was a little too organised for my disorganised schedule. Others may like to try it though. Tim
  18. Steph Just read your thread. Have you found any pedals yet? If not it could be a good project for your students to make some. Here are some picts of the ones I made. I would be happy to send you some plans if your interested. Tim
  19. I was going to run an online session tonight, Instead I will be using a session called GotBush? When you open up the multi player screen in FSX and type in your user name and password and enter in the next screen, in the top right hand corner there is a drop down box that will say freeflight (which is the default page) click this drop down list and select Bush Flying. You should see a session that says GotBush douple click the session to enter it. I will be there from 7pm EST Friday 30/7/10

  21. I,ve never seen one and just did a search with no luck. It would be an easy airframe model to do as it's all straight lines. (that is straight lines between bulkheads), but as with all of them, the devil is in the detail. I started mucking around with model building a while ago (see exapmle below) but it would take me a couple of weeks just to get back to where I left off. Might be worth asking a designer to consider doing a sonex.
  22. How to Fly On Line the first time I was going to write a tutorial but found this one which explains it all well. http://www.mutleyshangar.com/downloads/How%20to%20fly%20Multiplayer%20in%20FSX.pdf
  23. Setting up scenery so we all see the same thing The experience of flying online with others is much better if our scenery settings are all the same. If they are different then for some there are more trees, hangers and the edge of hills can be slightly different. While the Sim will still work some planes will have to fly around trees while watching other planes fly straight through them etc. To change your scenery settings (using the tool bar at the top left of your screen) and select Options then Settings then Display. The third tab on the top of the new open window is scenery. Click the Scenery tab to open that page. At the top leftish of the page is a dropdown box called Global Settings. Click in the dropdown box and select Medium High. We will use this setting to start with and change it if people are having problems with their system running at these specs.
