  1. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make it down there. Was it a good show? Post some pics guys!
  2. ooooh. I'm still waiting for the ATSB report about the mid air earlie this year. FTA's not having a great run are they.
  3. Haha that's awesome. I've always wondered though, how you do those text overlays etc back in the 90s?
  4. The more streamlined bodies of the new sportstars definitely make it look less "comical".
  5. Ooh! Clouds!! That's a nice perspective, I haven't seen clouds that low yet in my flying. I got a chance to ride shotgun in a chieftain today, and the trip back was in IFR. We also shot a missed approach ILS to edinburgh. Good fun :D. So many things to achieve in aviation....so little money.... haha.
  6. Thanks Bas, informative as always. I'll ask them the next time I go in, I might give this weekend a miss. Have a great flight on saturday, bring that camera with you.
  7. Bas, navigating sounds challengingly rewarding! I've only been out in the training area, I had no idea I could venture outside and over Edinburgh. YGPM soon. Where abouts have you been flying for your navs? Done lots of short strip stuff? The CTA training should be extremely fun, especially if you make an approach to adelaide international. I hear it's rather costly if you actually make contact with the runway though.
  8. Bas, good to hear from you. I sat my flight test about 3 weeks ago on a Tuesday. We flew to lower light and did a few circuits on the short strip and came back. All good! The short strip was exciting, we managed a touch and go pretty easily on the 400m odd strip.. I'm just building up hours for PAX now. How are the Nav's going? How many hours do you have to do in total again? And, yes, you should definitely take a camera!! (as long as you don't get lost ). Is the controlled airspace stuff difficult? Ah, I was going to go for a flight sat morning as well haha, that's ok, I'll make it Sunday.
  9. Unfortunately, I don't think it is. I tried using the high quality link (i.e. &fmt=18), however I think it defaults back to standard when embeded.
  10. Use the link below to view the higher quality version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vx9lfrZi0wY&fmt=18
  11. Flying the Evektor EV97 Sportstar from Parafield Airport (YPPF) in the late afternoon. Unfortunately, there was only about 2 mins of useable footage as I didn't plan on making a video. English Watch Now!
  12. Congrats Mike :) Just out of curiousity, how did you set up/attach the camera?
  13. I heard on the news tonight that last saturday, two aircraft had a close shave at Parafield on final. Just wondering if anyone had any more news? They said that it was a Grob and Tobago, both with an instructor and student, on final to the same runway. One aircraft came down on top of the other and the nosewheel of one touched the tail of the other. Minor damage on one or both aircraft, but both landed safely. They also mentioned that they were operating outside tower hours and thus were in ctaf. I can't find any info on this anywhere.
  14. Thanks Ross, I must be making a mistake somewhere. I tried doing it as you said above, but when I turned on the grid lines to double check the calibration, it was way off. Hence I started playing with the Mercator thingy. Blast, this is too hard, maptrax it is!
  15. I'm trying to calibrate a VTC for oziexplorer. I'm stuck at the point where I need to know the projection data. I've set it to Transverse Mercator as detailed on the VTC, but now I need the central meridian and lattitude origin. How do I find this out? Where is it written on the VTC?
  16. Hmm...looks like a Sea King? Here's the Evektor Sportstar:
  17. Rectangular at normal circuit height i.e. 1000ft. Oval (amended - racecourse) when doing low level 500ft circuits or precautionary search and landings. EDIT: Ozzie's post below is a more accurate description of what i meant.
  18. Bahahaha. That's some promise to live up to.
  19. Haha, first goal, indeed. Although, it will probably be quite a while before I go for my nav and other bigger goals. I'm content to just buzz around, close by, for now.
  20. G'day all, I had set myself the goal of obtaining my RA-Aus licence during the summer holidays. My first lesson started on the 15th of December last year. This morning, after 23.5 hours of flying, I successfuly passed my flight test. Oh, the joy and sense of achievement is wonderful  I can't wait to get out and fly to build up those command hours. Just gotta let this stupid heat die down first. Good luck to all those who are going through their training now. The most important tip I can give is to make sure that you're always enjoying the experience. See you in the friendly skies, Kian
  21. Haha! Well, provided all the things you said give you enough force to propel your aircraft forward, then, yes, it will work. However, all you've done is simply made a jet engine of sorts. To get enough air over the wings to create sufficient lift, you'd already be producing airflow that is fast enough to produce forward thrust. So effectively, you've just replaced your traditional rotax with another fan that produces thrust.
