  1. Thank you to all who replied to my inquiry, after 840hrs and approx. 1800 lands the mains are showing minor perish signs. They are an unreadable Chinese brand , not certified, fitted from new but I consider have done a fair stint.

  2. I have run 95 BP Mogas in my Tecnam Sierra for the best part of 750 hours with not one issue, I regularly check it for ethanol and have never found it. Only time my plane used avgas was on a trip last year from my home in Sale, Victoria to Ayers Rock & return as unleaded was harder to source, will give it a shandy of avgas these days only if I need a top up at an out of town airport.

Other than that she is strictly on a  Pulp diet.

Excuse my ignorance, but please , how do you check for ethanol content in our fuel

  3. About 1970 I was driving late at night and saw a beam of light going up and illuminating the clouds. It was flashing on and off like morse code. I thought about all the things it could be and decided it was aliens communicating with the mother ship. Then I got to the source - a bloke with a stick welder inside a scraper bowl, hard facing the cutting edge.

In the mid 60's an uncle and a cattle buyer were travelling round Western QLD buying cattle . One night in the distance they saw a light, which was pretty unusual in those days, but more unusual was, that it would come on for a while , go out , continually repeating with no set pattern. Thinking they were going to get up close and personal with a min min light , they drove up to a drovers camp where the Chinese Cook had been trying to check out a carbuncle on his <mod censored> with a shaving mirror and carbite light.
  4. I've got to agree with general distrust sentiments with media. It all changed for me whilst working at Holden Customer assistance and knowing all the facts of a 'lemon' vehicle and its owner as I was the go between between them, the Dealer involved and us as the manufacturer. Seeing the news report that made it to air and the two were absolute poles apart. The sensationalizing was simply incredible with not the slightest regard whatsoever for anything that detracted from the fanfare and BS they wanted to pump out. That was many years ago now, but to this day, I question everything I hear and see from the media - very, very clearly, their agenda's are elsewhere.

Must agree with all of the media loving. My son ,rv7 owner, works with a mate who has the same first name and similar aircraft to the one involved in the tragic accident near Emerald recently. Same name says , his sister in law receives a call from a major news journo , asking if she might have a recent photo of him. S.I. L. replies probably why? Journo - He has just been killed in a plane crash. S.I.L. Breaks contact, races round to find him having breakfast with his wife . There should be a snout and tail bounty.

  5. Late last year I flew to Toowoomba to pick up my son and delivered him back to Moranbah where he works in one of the mines. ( not BHP who ownes the airport) Being a GA pilot himself, he asked and was granted permission to land there. With 3days notice required and also an ETA , and the time was worked so it was,nt too close to big bird arrivals or departures. When he asked why all the hullabaloo , was informed that it is a busy airport, at least 3or 4 planes a day. Before leaving I thought it best to visit the WC so headed across the Tarmac , to be met by an airport official informing me I couldn't leave the plane without a high vis shirt on. He was good enough to escort me to the gate and back, but also said the boys were amused about my little transformer plane. Apparently Foxbat and transformers have the same symbol. It is indeed a shame that the mines have bought and closed ( to the public) many of the local airports, including Blackwater , Middlemount, Dysart and Moranbah that I know of.

  6. I'm an old pilot who has been flying under FAA sport pilot rules for the last 9 years. Now president of the Chesapeake Sport Pilot Flying Club ( Chesapeake Sport Pilot Flying Club ) flying a Tecnam P92 Eaglet out of W29. Previously have flown a wide variety of single engine aircraft VFR and IFR as owner, renter and in flying clubs. Have owned or part owned a Taylorcraft BC-65, Cessna 180, Cessna 210, Cessna 195, Schlicher ASW-15 and Meyers 200D. In clubs have flown Cessna 140, Cessna 170, Cessna 172, Cessna 182, Piper Commanche, Mooney, Navion and a variety of gliders. I've flown coast to cost in the US 8 times and to Canada, Mexico and the Bahamas. Hope to meet other flyers here and exchange information.Dan Brown

Hello Dan, That's a fair collection of toys you have had or flown, would be interested to know which aircraft you consider the nicest to fly? Andy.

  7. "Won’t you join our Common Market?" said the spider to the fly,"It really is a winner and the cost is not too high."

"I know De Gaulle said 'Non', but he hadn’t got a clue,"

"We want you in, my friends and I, for we have plans for you."

"You’ll have to pay a little more than we do, just for now,"

"As Herr Kohl said, and I agree, we need a new milch cow,"

"It’s just a continental term, believe me, mon ami,"

"Like 'Vive la France' or 'Mad Anglais' or even 'EEC'.

"As to the rules, don’t worry friend, there’s really but a few,"

"You’ll find that we ignore them - but they all apply to you."

"Give and share between us, that’s what it’s all about,"

"You do all the giving, and we all share it out."

"It’s very British, is it not, to help a friend in need?"

"You’ve done it twice in two World Wars, a fact we must concede,"

"So climb aboard the Market Train, don’t sit there on the side,"

"Your continental cousins want to take you for a ride."

I totally agree. Dragging the strong down will never lift the weak . Socialism is obviously the perfect system, except it will never work except maybe in a bee hive or ants nest where everyone is born equal , genetically perfect (or are immediatly banished,) and work equally as hard towards a common cause. The way I see it, the people who like this idea also happen to be the ones who say " they" should do this or "they " should do that , while , they themselves don,t contribute .

  8. Pantyhose is the answer. Years ago we had been in a stock camp, mustering every day for weeks, winter time, with bleak dry weather. One night , after a particularly hard day, a lot of galloping, a young bloke asked me if my legs were sore. I said yes they were a bit chaffed ,why. He pulled up the leg of his jeans and he had a blister , from the bottom of his calf to his knee. For people that have,t ridden horses , riding toey horses chasing toey cattle over rough country ,you have to ride fairly tight. Grip with your knees. If you happen to get sweat from your horse on your trouser legs , makes it worse ,feels like you are rubbing your legs on concrete . Well, somehow I sent a message back to my wife , asking to possibly send something up for him to put on his leg, when along with some tucker and fresh dogs, is a bag with a couple of packets of brand new pantyhose , and a note saying try these, turned up. I did keep my promise , not to tell anyone, but after 35 years , I think he would laugh about it

  9. Hey All,After 41 years after getting my PPL and not continuing to fly, I'm jumping in head first once again. I've taken my first lesson and am hooked once again. Can I get some recommendations of an affordable yet good quality headset? I'll be flying 172's for the moment.

    Thanks!

Hello Dan, I would just comment that if you are able to carry on with a conversation in a crowded room or with music blaring, your hearing is probably still good and any of the headsets are probably alright. My story is that I have spent 50+ years working in noisy cattle yards and many thousands of hours operating heavy machinery with straight though stacks, wearing ear protection that would make "Bob the builder" play sets look first class. So my hearing is far from ideal. This being the case, I was having terrible trouble understanding the radio calls and seriously thinking I would have to give up flying, when my wife presented me with Zulu noise cancelling headset.Probably sick of my whinging , she had done some research and now I am extreamly grateful to her , that she purchased them for me. In my own mind I would never of spent that much money, but even for just the safety aspect , probably makes it , worth it. But I must warn you, it doesn't cut out the foreign accents, machine gun transmissions, one breath wonders, or the up and down the scale singers. Good luck , Andy

  10. 002_wave.gif.62d5c7a07e46b2ae47f4cd2e61a0c301.gif Hi Andrew,Murrumba Downs is about 27km north of Brisbane, currently I am in the process of studying / learning to fly with Fly Now Redcliffe, which is about 40km from Brisbane for my RAAus Pilot Certificate

    Cheers, Brent 003_cheezy_grin.gif.c5a94fc2937f61b556d8146a1bc97ef8.gif

Brent , on a different post, thread , not into puter jargon much, but I noticed that a tiger moth had flipped at Redcliffe. I thought I recognised the rego , VH BJE looked up my late dads log ,and it was one that he had trained in at rocky aero club in 1953. Flying the little birds will make you a better plane operator

  11. Hi Andy,

We have a house in Springsure. The sad looking C152 that used to be at the airport was one of ours. Which direction are you from Springsure? Always happy to see action at the strip. Welcome to the forum.

    Sue

Hello Sue, Depending on how long you have been in the Springsure area, you may recall an orange tipped , straight tailed 172 VH MHS that got about the area from 1958 until 2005. A book could be written on the excursions of that old girl, including , supposedly being the first 172 in Aust. If you don,t know the aircraft To get to our place , take off on 31 (doesn't, matter if it's the wrong way for the wind, by the time you make your call it will be different anyway) skirt to the south of the mountains then across the river , up Medway Ck to Mowbray. All visitors welcome ,Andy

  12. Hello Everyone, Have been a member for a while but hadn't sent any messages, or rather didn't,t know how to, so what made me prick my ears was the mention of the tiger flipping at Redcliffe.Thinking I recognised the rego. VH BJE, I looked up my late fathers log book and it was one of the tiger moths he had trained in at Rockhampton Aero Club in 1953. By the photos posted it looked to be in good condition, hope not too much damage. Would love to have a lap in it. Other tigers he flew there were VH AYW , VH CEJ ,VH AQD and VH GWB. Andy

  14. Hello AndrewI Qantased into Emerald yesterday - an absolute swag of planes tied up - aviation seems healthy in those parts

Yes John, speaking to CFI recently and he said they are very busy and I regularly hear the training aircraft on CTAF when doing my water run
