  1. So i bought a custom made headset from a guy that's no longer in business. I think it was called the Squawk Shoppe over in the US. Anyway i'm trying to find some replacement gel seals that will fit, and all google is showing up is either bose or david clrake seals! Does anyone have any idea where i should go looking for alternatives? From what i can see the david clark ones are the same style of seal but slightly bigger. I was trying to avoid going down the road of becoming Macgyver...
  2. ah so the CASA license was the key ingredient 😉
  3. I did my initial ra-aus training at a class D airport in Perth, Jandakot. We were able to do a scenic route into the Perth Charlie airspace known as the victor65, which is basically a lap of the city for scenic purposes. I remember i needed to be checked out to be allowed to do this.. although i dont know if it was an Ra-aus rating? Or possibly it crossed over with CASA as i also have a CASA RPL. But the aircraft was an ra-aus rego. I have a feeling that this was only allowed because my base airport was in the Delta. So now that i fly out of a different airfield, i guess my question is.. I assume im not allowed to fly this route anymore?
  4. Yeah I posted the wrong link! No idea how to edit/delete a post now they’ve changed the site! Haha anyway... here’s the actual link if anyone wants to watch
  5. All arguments aside, my main point was I have a habit of saying affirm in situations that really warrant a roger ?
  6. I’m a fairly new pilot, and seem to be struggling with the use of “affirm” and “roger”. I understand the meaning of both, and the context in which they SHOULD be used, but I seem to continually default to saying affirm when I really should say roger. Has anyone else had this problem? I guess it will eventually work itself out, but I thought someone might have a way they went about drumming it into their head haha. On my last flight I did it so many times it started to become comical! Here’s a short video of it
  7. Yeah the RPL conversion is pretty painless long as you have ALL the paperwork together. A couple of hours of hood time and a flight review in a VH aircraft. I haven’t done CTA yet but will be doing it soon
  8. Not sure if this is the right place for this post.. But does anyone know of any places in Australia that will install ANR kits to a currently PNR headset?
  9. I have both RAA and RPL. I am flying an RAA reg plane from the school I got my RAA cert, yes, at Jandakot.
  10. So I flew up to the Alkimos shipwreck with the intention of getting some footage of it from the air... although due to my poor camera placement I didn’t get any good shots of it hahahaha oh well an excuse to go again ;)
  11. Its been a while since I posted a video in here! Just a quick flight down to Mandurah and back along the beach. :)
  12. Yeah I fly Ra-Aus out of jandakot (class D with parallel rubway ops) and I’ve heard of guys getting told off for circuits that were even just a bit too tight (even tho ERSA says “circuit size should be as compact as practicable” for noise abatement... go figure) so I can imagine flying a circling style pattern definitely wouldn’t fly!! (Pun intended)
  13. I think you might be referring to where I learnt to fly, at Jandakot WA YPJT... the Ra-Aus school there has an exemption to operate out of the class D airspace but not the nearby class C of Perth airport YPPH
  14. Will do. I’ve watched a few videos on YouTube recorded with this system, ones where there is a specific thing about 4 feet or so away from the camera look good (like a guy hang gliding and camera is mounted on wing tip or something) but I think in a cockpit, the instrument panel will be 3D but that’s about it. You can view using the old coloured glasses or on a 3D smart tv
  15. I feel like it’s a bit of a gimmick, but has anyone used the GoPro 3D accessory at all when flying? I got given one for Christmas (oh yay) wondering if there’s even any point using it in the cockpit
  16. I used the Ra-Aus text and it was fine. Practice pilot exams site is also very good as previously mentioned
  17. I’ve been flying sportstars with the front hinged bubble canopy, yeah they get a bit toasty but they have a sliding sun shade which helps. As long as you have a few air vents it’s really not that bad. Just go higher!! Toughen up aussies ;)
  18. Rottnest Island before work: the advantage of the sun coming up so ridiculously early in summer!
  19. Thanks mate are you in our Perth Pilots group?
  20. I’d recommend recording all of your flying lessons (with audio from headsets) it’s anazing how much more information you can absorb by watching over your last lesson before you go up for the next. Helped me immensely
  21. Student solo Nav, out to Northam YNTM Last one before my RA-Aus cross country test, then converting over to RPL
