  1. based in capertee I have a rather nice airfield and house which i would like to share with someone who has some knowledge of repainting a gel coat aircraft. the gel coat is crazed and not sure if i have to take off all the gel coast before repainting? anyone got any ideas. can offer accommodation and a hourly rate for someone who whats to be on a afarm for a few weeks. I also have a old lazair that i would like to convert to electric power anyone got any ideas? i regards to the lack of daily viewers I suspect that flying is a costly and time consuming activity which puts a lot of people off.

  2. Sorry I clicked a few wrong buttons here. Now if you don't like airshows but like to be in scenic country side and yu are a mechanic come and stay at the Last resort for a few days or a week to help refit rubber parts to a rotten and other maintenance issues. accommodation food, and hourly rate offered.

  3. First ly let me highlight that this is not an assessment of the quality of the air show that I went to the other day. It is just my observation of how I enjoyed it.I have been to a couple of flyins, not many. And on the weekend I went to the airshow at Watts Bridge.

Yesterday I went for an hour and a half joy flight with no actual destination in mind just a quick jolly around the local area.

I have to admit that I enjoyed my flight yesterday far more than I did the airshow or most of the flyins that I have been to. It may just be me but standing around watching other people doing fly pasts just doesn't do much for me I would rather be up there doing it my self. Am I on my own in these thoughts or are there others like me who are happier just to go flying?

Having said all of the above I do enjoy going to flyin Breakfasts. You know land have a feed for 45 mins to an hour, a quick walk past the planes on my way back to mine, then of for another fly home.

  4. I borrowed a dynamic balancer from Mark, of Kyle Communications on this forum. I then spent hours balancing and rebalancing my prop. I then researched prop balancers. Found two of interest, Vibrotech (Australian) sell balancer for around $1500 AUD, the other thing I found was a little thing called a "Balance Master". I was sceptical, but after having a bit of a think about it, I realised that it worked on the same principle as the bifilar weights on a Blackhawk rotor head, and purchased one from the US to try. Have to say, I was very pleasantly surprised with just how well it works. Cost me a couple of $100, but it works, and it works well. I told Bob Keen of Avid Aviation in Dalby about it, he bought a couple to try, now he's the Australian distributor for them. They are made for Rotax 2 and 4 strokes, lycomings and much more.

I can put you in touch with Bob if that interests you.

Thanks I have to do a balance on my feathering prop anyone can rent be a balancer or offer some help

    thanks

    I'm very interested in the Balance Masters, concept, but the prospect of having a large quantity of mercury on my plane worries me.Here's a couple of things that I think need to be considered;

    1) How robust is the containment system in the Balance Masters?

    2) Would it withstand a crash scenario?

    3) If it failed in a crash or just in normal usage, it would spray liquid mercury in all directions. Who would be responsible for the clean up?

    4) How well do they work at lower temperatures (ie what is the freezing point of mercury)?

    5) What is the Aus government's rules on these types of devices? They are banned in New York State already and there are moves to further ban or restrict them in the US and other places.

I believe after doing some reading that they actually do work, but I'm a bit concerned about the practicalities / legalities. I might contact the guy in Dalby and investigate more about this.

    can I rent one of

    Who's for it & why?Who's against it & why?

Give me all your glowing success stories and dirty little failures.

I have painstakingly static balanced my prop.

Made multiple pitch adjustments & test flights, to arrive at an acceptable (to me) propeller performance for my take off / landing environment.

In my obsessive pursuit of perfection I am now wonder about dynamic balancing as the next level of worthwhile/dodgy investment.

Anybody care to recommend a NSW dynamic prop balancing service provider?

Just thought I would throw this little hand grenade into the discussion pit & see what jumps out.

is there a contact number to rent this balancer

  5. Well many years ago the MAG was a erburden of regulations source of info and considered option.

Most pilots know the industry fairly well and are bored with the average flight article. Secondly aviation is certainly dying because of the over the top rego and servicing costs. My plane is 7 years old and worth a quarter new cost.

I guess u can say the skies are owned by the military and commercial flying not any room for recording flying

I drew up this Google map to show airstrips within 1 km of pubs and food. A few fly-in resorts and accommodation have sneaked in, but they're not really the same. There seems to be a demand for a map of such accommodation, and I know there are quite a few fliers travelling around these days who have found excellent places. Someone should start such a map, but I'm not interested cause I'm a dedicated camper and never use such accommodation. It's really easy with Google Maps, and once started, the list will build quickly from suggestions of those who have found suitable places.s

    Anyone interested in doing it???

Landing strip available with hanger and accommodation next to national park
