  1. It’s all hypothetical and pointless. 

    The  big thing is that Australia’s total CO2 production is about 1 % of the earths anthropogenic total (which needs to be dropped by 45% to make any difference. )

    This includes the minuscule amount made by the negligible number of recreational aircraft.  ( And no one should be allowed to bring up that STUPID statement that Aussie have the highest per capital production. That’s a scientifically idiotic statement because the climate is changed by the total mass of greenhouse gases not by how many people made it. It doesn’t care whether one person, or twenty million make the  amount only the total amount present. ) 

     

     

    So even if we ceased ALL production of CO2 instantly it would make zero difference because it would only drop the rest world CO2 lowered production requirement from 45 to 44% of total. And make exactly no difference at all. 

    Throw into the mix that the three biggest emitters ( USA, China and India) make more CO2 in a week than we make in a year and all their emissions are rising - and the elephant in the room that no one in Australia wants to mention is that there is nothing we can do to change anything - beyond hold the high moral ground ( and remember that apart from us here in Australia here, (we think we a big players in the world ) in fact most of the rest of the world has no clue who we are, where we are, and much more couldn't give a stuff what we say or do) 

     

    Sure we can hold some moral position based on the glowing halos we have over our heads but we shouldn’t beat ourselves up, nor allow ourselves to be beaten up by others, because we have toys that emit probably less gases than the collective lawn mowers of the rest of the population.

  2. The Q7 programming should be the same. My mate has the X7 and hasn’t had any trouble. Mine is the X9s. I think I actually prefer the more compact shape or the X7.

    Hope this helps. Perhaps you don’t have the volume turned on. It’s been a while since I first did the programming but it wasn’t hard. I have the vario volume on the right slider and can turn it on and off with the SD switch.

     

    There are some really good guides on how to set it up on YouTube which is how I did mine.

  4. F_T You have missed a very big point, so hence it is quite obvious you live in the GSE.What about those small schools like Roma, Longreach even see there is a small school in Cunnamulla. Those organisations service a small clientele and imagine if these people had to travel to the GSE to do their flying. Isn't RAAus for sport and recreation.

    These remote schools the instructor is only part time as the instructor has to have another job to survive as instructing/flying is basically a hobby.

    No one is hiring aircraft. They are just training. It is in many respects easier to travel to a training centre from many rural areas. As for no-annuals. Do em whole on holiday?

  6. This is a really good and thorough report and I believe accurate.

     

    When I flew to Natfly with Ross in his GR Lightwing he stated during discussion of engine failure procedures that the GR would turn on a dime in the event of engine failure and turning back would be high on the option list. In fact he pretty much described the manoeuvre the same way the witnesses did. I recall thinking not at this weight I hope as we were fairly loaded up with gear.

     

    It struck me suddenly upon reading this...every pilot who has died in a light aircraft crash that I have known was flying someone else’s aeroplane.

  7. the advantage Toowoomba has got is its proximity to major capital cities via the highway and Wellcamp to a lesser extent

    I don't think training pilots is about access to City's via the highway. Mackay has the best access via the airways in the region.

    Mr Antonio met with Qantas representatives yesterday, with Wagners director John Wagner and State Development Minister Cameron Dick, to discuss the Wagners' proposal, which would be built at Wellcamp Airport.

     

    The proposal would see the construction of new taxi-ways at the airport, new buildings for training and a new accommodation village for students.

     

    Mr Wagner said the facility would also utilise other airports in the region, including the Toowoomba Aerodrome and the Pittsworth, Millmerran, Warwick, Dalby, Oakey, Amberley and Kingaroy airports.

     

    "If we are successful with this bid it will mean significant infrastructure, 700 new jobs for this region, brand new jobs that don't exist already," Mr Wagner said.

     

    "It would mean 60 to 70 aircraft based here full time.

     

    "We would expect more passenger services, which would give us a better schedule and cheaper prices for the travelling public. It would have a huge flow-on effect for the region."

     

    Mr Wagner said the facility could boost the local economy by $600 million.

     

    Despite saying he favoured neither proposal over the other, Mr Dick heaped praised on the Toowoomba proposal.

     

    "(Toowoomba has) 315 clear flying days each year. It's a town on the up when it comes to economic growth. It's also a fantastic place to live," Mr Dick said.

     

    "There is no (flight) curfew here.

     

    "What you've got here is an unrivalled commitment from a local family."

     

    Plane landings can be tricky: Pilots have to think quick.

     

    Mr Wagner said his company would invest $55 million into the proposal if Qantas chose Toowoomba.

     

    "We can have this up and running in five to six months from when they sign a commercial agreement," Mr Wagner said.

     

    Mr Dick said he would travel to Mackay soon to meet with Qantas representatives there.

     

    "Mackay will be feeling the love as well," he said.

     

    Qantas Group Pilot Academy executive manager Wes Nobelius said a recent survey of the 14,000 aspiring pilots, who had indicated their interest in the Academy, showed a vast majority would be open to live, and train, in any of the nine shortlisted regional cities.

     

    "Our team met with local and state government leaders including Mayors from across the broader region, business advocates and the Wellcamp Airport team in Toowoomba today to tour the facilities and assess the feasibility of our Academy being set up here," Mr Nobelius said.

     

    "It will be a competitive process as we visit all nine regional shortlisted cities to go through in detail what's required to establish the Academy, and ensure it is sustainable in the long term."

     

    The other regional cities in consideration for the academy are Alice Springs, Bendigo, Busselton, Dubbo, Launceston, Mackay, Tamworth and Wagga Wagga.

     

    A decision on where the pilot training facility will go is expected later this year.

    BUT...they will have Mackay to themselves pretty much....to do with what they will.

     

     

  9. This pretty much sums it all up.....The socialists seem to believe that there's a job for everyone and that were all equal, we just need some training. Statistically there is a percentage of the population that are not intelligent enough (and never will be) to carry out even basic tasks. All for equal opportunity, but forcing equality of outcome will not end well for anyone.

    That's not Socialism...that is you being paranoid. Not saying it doesn't exist.. Just that both sides that mindset at different times.

  10. Don't get over-excited Win.While not strictly safety, I was directly involved in the phase-in of ISO 9001 to one of Australia's bigger companies. All people involved in it worked in spare time. One was the overall coordinator, and about four others including myself had specific tasks to complete, which included writing the manual, form a proforma skeleton. From memory we did it in about four months, albeit with a lot of nights spent writing. When the manual was complete, we gave each State a Manual and advised them we would be conducting audits of the States in about a month. We each audited 1 or 2 States. I flew to Brisbane and audited the Queensland Branch against the whole Manual. That did involve an interstate flight and a lost days production. The Queensland Branch returned a 100% audit pass, and Victoria returned about 90%, which then had to be rectified. From that point the company worked off the manuals, which were updated when necessary, and people appointed randomly to to the audits when required. We had just the one co-ordinator interfacing with the ISO body, and they in turn audited us Nationally from time to time. We were probably smart enough not to let our hundreds of people air their views from the rooftops.

    Nor were the safety systems as complicated as some seem to believe. In one case, on the main car line, the floor pan was spot welded in one hit to the other body panels, held down by a large press. About eight people were involved in this process, and injuries had occurred in the past; but getting eight people ready and clear at the same time without someone looking the wrong way at the critical time, or putting he had in to retrieve something was problematic, so that issue was resolved by setting up 8 seats around the activity, and fitting them with pressure switches. The press and welders couldn't activate until all 8 were seated, and this involved technology that was available in the 1920s - no additional needed, no additional supervisors, no additional processes, just a focus on improving safety.

    And NO ONE....wants to acknowledge the elephant in the room.

     

     

  11. I disagree with Yenn that it is all a matter of ticking boxes and nobody is supposed to fail".There is no pass or fail. If people, especially auditors, understand its purpose then the effect of an audit is to point out if an organisation has followed or strayed from its intended course of action. If it has strayed, then the audit shows that fact and that some sort of remedial action is required to get it back on track. If it hasn't strayed, then there's a tick in the box and the auditor moves on.

     

    How does an organisation pass an audit?

     

    1. Management determines a desired result for an activity.

     

    2. Management develops and documents procedures for achieving those results.

     

    3. Management informs the affected parties what is involved in the procedures and how to implement them.

     

    4. Management observes and records if the procedures result in the achievement of the desired result for the activity.

     

    5. Management adjusts the procedures using the result of the analysis of the records.

     

    6. The auditor comes in as an independent set of eyes and checks that steps 1 to 5 have been completed.

     

    As for Yenn saying "In my last few years at work I found that if I failed the computer based safety questionnaires, I was still given the "whatever" card to let me go onto industrial sites." That is not a fault of the system. That is the fault of the person determining your competency and knowledge. They did you wrong. How would you feel if, having attended a training session, you showed that you did not have the necessary level of competency to complete a task, but were given a "whatever" card and people suffered as a result of your lack of competency?

     

    That's what the poor young girl who did not know how to shut down the ride is suffering now.

    What if management only ensures the organisation will pass leading up to and during the time when the audit is being performed?
