About Me

  1. Hi! I need to interview seasoned pilots for thesis purposes. Would you help me? Thanks!
  2. Good Morning, I am posting to invite pilots who are interested in furthering the current research and focus on Human Factors to take part in a survey. Pilots of any category (Military, GA, Civil, Recreational, Student, Commercial) and any flight hours are invited to take part in this short (10-15min) survey looking into Emotional Intelligence and Decision Making in high-consequence situations. If there is interest, I would be happy to post a results document after the research has concluded. Link to Survey: https://rmit.au1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eKCI7qGo6yJDuDP I am happy to chat a
  3. I am looking for something to replace my Brumby 610 Lycoming powered. I am looking for a big cabin , 130 kts , 4 seats, what’s for sale?
  4. Anybody here own or fly a Pelican PL or know where I can get some main landing gear legs for one? They were a Canadian kit years back and since been taken over by Ballard Sport Aircraft in Quebec - have had no luck e-mailing or calling them Home
  5. Any ideas please on the most suitable lubricant to help fit bungee rings. I'm replacing mine again, and want to make them slide easier around the mounts as they are stretched - no easy task as each ring has a test load of 1160 lbs (527 Kg) and they are doubled up around the mounting pegs. Current thinking is tyre bead mounting paste, but am not sure about its long-term effects on the rubber strands and cotton covering of the rings.
  6. Considering purchase of the Aera 660, have read many reviews etc which are mainly overseas ones. The vendors here simply publish the Garmin blurb and nothing relative to Australia. I am interested in subscription costs etc which I believe is Jepessen? ADSB in is available as a Garmin accessory but I was wondering IF the new Skyecho unit would connect to the 660? I know people use iPads etc to do a similar job with Avplan etc etc, but I want a stand alone dedicated solution. Any help appreciated.
  7. I think it is time to revisit the site, its function, its capability, its service to all recreational aviators. Time to perhaps look at a Wish List of what the site could perhaps deliver/provide you all...so how about it, what would you like to put on the Wish List? I will start although derived from a specific user's request: Aviation Book List - details about the many different books written about aviation Aviation Movie List - details about the many different movies concerning aviation Plain English Weather Converter After all, I am stuck here in Melbourne in lock down so it will g
  8. I am looking for any information on the overhaul of a Subaru NSI gearbox. I would like any parts break down and or a supplier of the same. The prop is free wheeling , so it will be a sprag issue I suspect.
  9. Has anyone heard of “Australian Performance Props”? I can’t find anything online about them.
  10. Just wondering what value the "brains trust" put on factory built aircraft - compared with the same unit, kit built ? So this is a question about perceived value, ability to train & hire - it is not about build quality etc etc
  11. Out of curiousity what other things are you guys interested in like Cars, Boats, Gardening, Technology, Jobs, Home Maintenance ?????????????????
  12. Looking at the site statistics today and I am alarmed at an obvious downward trend. The number of "registered" users coming to the site every day seems to be maintained at an average of around 250 to 275 per day however years ago we were averaging 600 registered users per day peaking at up to 1,000 (the graph peaks are a result of the weekly email that goes out). I believe this drop is caused purely by Facebook. But what is concerning is the huge downward trend in the number of posts per day. This could be caused by Covid-19 but I would have thought that the numbers would increase given that e
  13. Hi all, Can anyone tell me where I could buy Loctite Anti Seize 8151 (or equivilent) for use on muffler ball joints on a Rotax 912ULS exhaust? I was hoping to source some locally in Brisbane CBD area. Thanks in advance :)
  14. We are interested to know the best and the least helpful experiences you've had with your aircraft manufacturer. This is a very short survey. If you are the 24th or the 100th person to complete the form, we'll send you $100. Manufacturer Survey Thanks Stuart
  15. Hi Gurus, If a person could positively identify the manufacturer of the following tail wheel assembly that would be great. Please disregard the tail wheel itself, that will not ident the assembly. Reason, new grease cap is required, and I want to get a spare bushing too! Grease cap is 1.25 inch or 31.7mm All exact answers gratefully received. Please see attached photos.......
  16. I am having a debate and would like to get your input into what you like to view websites at...here on Recreational Flying we use the "Fluid" width where the page width stretches across the width of the whole screen no matter what non-mobile size screen you have but has large empty spaces between horizontal areas of the site: The other type is the "Fixed" width where the website is set at a specific maximum width but based on a screen resolution size of 1024 wide...some say this is easy on the eyes but leaves unused space on the sides of larger screens (ignore the fact the menu is on the
  17. I always thought that the carburettors fitted to the Rotax 900 range were altitude compensating (auto adjust) to at least 8,000 ft - perhaps not as precisely/accurately as one might like but a fair compromise never the less. I recently read a comment, by Ivan Shaw, where he categorically states that the Bing carburettors, as fitted to Rotax 912 range, are not altitude compensating. Did a little additional reserch, only to find the exact opposite statement from other authoritative figures. So whats it to be:: Are they altitude compensating? To some degree? If so to what altitude
  18. Hi everyone, Been a while since I've posted on here so hopefully putting this in the right place. I'm in the process of looking to purchase an aeroplane (GA). Said aeroplane has a Lycoming O-235-C1 (115hp) and this would be its 3rd installation with the engine TT being 2500ish hours. There is a record of major repair/overhaul occurring at this point. The engine logbook now states it has 2000hrs remaining. This overhaul took place ~20 years ago so the 12 year calendar life has expired and the engine is now "on condition". To my actual question, the cylinder pressures range from 60psi t
  19. Attention Brains Trust: Seeking comments on Europa XS LOVE? UNDECIDED ? HATE ? Constructive observation from experienced persons?
  20. I can not respond to messages through the Forum because I have forgotten my password. I go into "forgotten password" fill out the application. System asks for words from "AVATAR" big PROBLEMO no avatar !! Can go no further (Hope Rosco is reading this - sorry mate did try to help.
  21. Hi all, I'm doing my 5 yearly Rotax rubber replacement and could anyone please tell me where can I get a replacement hose to this black ribbed style coolant hose? (pictures attached) it has an internal diameter of 1 inch and wall is 4mm wide. It looks like straight heater hose but it needs to handle 130' Celcius (unlike car radiator hoses which are only good for 80-90'C). I am thinking that silicone type hoses are the way to go due their high temperature tolerance and excellent ageing characteristics. Unfortunately I am unable to get this hose from Bert Floods as it is a non-Rotax part. Th
  22. I will ask BF about this but also you, the Brain Trust - when does the Rotax TBO (10 year) calendar clock start ticking ? Date of manufacture ? Purchase Date " Installation/commissioning date ?
  23. How to put SOLD on a classified?? AND How come I must login when answering a classified enquiry (problem when lost password)??
  24. Hi All: There is a Rotax 912 ULS for sale in the Classifieds it has (to my eye/experience) two unusual features that some of you may be able to explain; Cooling, oil & fuel hoses that look like flexible metal ?? Muffler that looks to be about 1/4 the size of a standard Rotax and flat on the bottom??
  25. I would guess that this might represent a marriage made in hell for the die had Jab/Rotax crowd but I would be interested to have some informed hopefully factual comments on this aircraft merits/shortcomings. So - how does the aircraft perform, particularly in comparison with a Jabiru 120 Hp powered J230 ???
