About Me

  1. There are several ways we can have Clubs, Schools and Clubs/Schools on the site for everyone and I am unsure which way would be the cleanest yet most functional for everyone. I believe we need to meet 2 functions in Clubs and Schools: 1. Enable a Club or School to create a presence here on Recreational Flying 2. Be able to provide a list of ALL Clubs and Schools for users and perspective students to be able to look up and find out about each one Firstly we will have Groups (yet to be turned on) and this can have categories for Clubs, Schools and General Groups(for aircraft types, etc)
  2. As a relative newbie to aviation. What is the general time frame for investigating aircraft crashes and incidents. I understand this could sound a bit like a " how big is a piece of string" type question. But just interested to know so one couuld study cause or factors reguarding aircraft incidents. Cheers Craig
  3. It seems like a design flaw to me, to have to remember to switch fuel tanks every 30 minutes. What do you think? VERO BEACH, Florida - On December 2, 2019, a Piper PA28 Warrior, N558PU, was substantially damaged during a forced, student pilot emergency landing in a field. The student pilot was not injured. The pilot departed VRB earlier in the day for a solo, cross-country flight. He took off from VRB with full fuel tanks and landed uneventfully at another airport. He intended to switch fuel tanks one hour into the flight, contrary to the flight school's policy of every 30 minutes. He forgo
  4. Hey all, So my bird has a Rotax 912ULS with only 320 odd hours on it. The problem is, it will be 15 years old (TBO) in 3 very short years. So I have a few questions I would love your opinion on. 1) - Would you try to offload it now, and put that coin towards a new one? OR 2) - Would you wait for the 3 years and try and offload at TBO and do as above? OR 3) - Would you keep it and run it "On Condition" as allowable under RAAus? (Private use only) I would love to hear your thoughts. The engine has meticulously maintained, with all SBs etc completed. Just scratching my
  5. I am looking for any information on the overhaul of a Subaru NSI gearbox. I would like any parts break down and or a supplier of the same. The prop is free wheeling , so it will be a sprag issue I suspect.
  6. There are 2 ways we can provide you with the Whats New (Unread) Page and I would like you to vote on which one you would prefer so as to give me direction on the page. 1. The way it is now with ALL new items that you haven't read/seen in a list. This includes not only forum posts but also new aircraft entries, new tutorials, new videos, images, articles etc...or 2. The list to just contain new forum posts/threads in the one box plus new entries for each section in other blocks...blocks like the home page has The thing is there may be something in the other sections of the site that ar
  7. Currently the Off Topic site is named Whats Up Australia (.com.au) which I feel is a bit long. I am about to rebuild that site into something more powerful and sociable so I am wondering whether to just call it Jackaroo (.com.au)...what do you think? The Off Topic site is purely for discussions on anything to do with Australia...politics, news, current events and affairs etc.
  8. I'm trying to diagnose the cause of problem that on my home build VK-30 with 914 F2 engine variable speed propeller. 1. Airbox temp goes up to 92 C to 95 C and all other parameters are NORMAL, like oil temp, CHT, EGT etc. RPM was 5000 ~ 5500 with no drop or any vibration issue gain height 12000 feet to 16000 feet. as per book, Airbox intervene at 88C as per book MANUAL. but here no such action was found. why?
  9. Hey all, Does anyone know if RAA is still sending Rego Cards for Aircraft? I have not received mine, from about 2 months ago. Website states it's registered, just no card in the mail. Cheers J
  10. Hi folks Have been trolling around in the threads and seen plenty about 912 oil pressure senders not sending the right info to the gauge. However my question is, has anyone had a sensor that has begun to leak. I think mine is leaking a bit of oil, although it is had to discern exactly where it is coming from as it get blown around a bit. Thoughts....?
  11. Hi UK aviators! my wife and I have just home returned home after a couple weeks visit to the UK. It was basically a family visit, but we drove around a bit and took in a few sites. En route to Durham we called in at the delightful little flying club at Fishburn, which has a coffee shop overlooking the field. There we got talking to Dave, who's the farmer who owns the land the airfield is situated on. Dave was a really good bloke. He took us on a tour of the hangars, introduced us to a couple of the club members who were around, and told us about his practical arrangements for operatin
  12. Hi all, Can anyone tell me where I could buy Loctite Anti Seize 8151 (or equivilent) for use on muffler ball joints on a Rotax 912ULS exhaust? I was hoping to source some locally in Brisbane CBD area. Thanks in advance :)
  13. I am having a debate and would like to get your input into what you like to view websites at...here on Recreational Flying we use the "Fluid" width where the page width stretches across the width of the whole screen no matter what non-mobile size screen you have but has large empty spaces between horizontal areas of the site: The other type is the "Fixed" width where the website is set at a specific maximum width but based on a screen resolution size of 1024 wide...some say this is easy on the eyes but leaves unused space on the sides of larger screens (ignore the fact the menu is on the
  14. I will ask BF about this but also you, the Brain Trust - when does the Rotax TBO (10 year) calendar clock start ticking ? Date of manufacture ? Purchase Date " Installation/commissioning date ?
  15. Hi everyone, It´s time for me to exchange all the rubber fuel tubings in my SavannahS, Rotax 912 (eight years since built). Four dimensions (6, 7, 8, 10 and 11 mm) were delivered with the kit and as some dimensions are difficult to find (particularly if you want a quality brand) I wonder if all dimensions are really needed. For instance, the 7 mm tube is used to connect the mechanic pump with the electric pump while the 6 mm tube connects the mechanic pump with the "spider". In other words, fuel to the mechanic pump is delivered via 7 mm tube and fuel from the mechanic pump via 6 mm tube.
  16. So here's a question... Log books - What do you use? Electronic, or paper based? If Electronic, which ones, and both for Pilot and Aircraft! Maybe you use a spreadsheet, or maybe you designed your own sheet! I currently use a sheet that I have designed, and it's in a binder (for my aircraft logs) my pilot log is currently in a tradition log book. In this day though, it makes sense to go electronic, but not sure which is good or not. Discuss!!!
  17. Often I see aircraft identifying as R-NOT-S on Oz Runways. Sometimes it's doing 90kts down low, other times it's at FL30 and doing several hundred knots. Anybody know what the R-NOT-S means?
  18. Wondering if anyone has a Australian channel list file for the above radio please? It would save me a lot of work creating one. Any hep appreciated:-) Cheers, Jack.
  19. Gday all. Im sure this question may have been done to death. But Im new so Im gunna ask. I read on an OZ flying sight recently, that RAAus is trying to get CASA to increase the MTOW allowance for RPC holders from 600kg to 750kg (think thats right), so as to allow them a larger range of aircraft and such. Firstly, will this have any chance of happening in the near future? Secondly. What do more experienced pilots think of this idea? Good? Bad? Thirdly. Do you think if this opens the gate to a bigger range of aircraft , like say the Cessna 150/152. Will it inevitably drive the price
  20. Hi, I was wondering how long it takes to get an RV kit transported out from the USA?
  21. Hi wanted to know it normal for the Savannah to high nose attitude when you are trying to stall it. Paul
  22. Is it possible to use a flywheel as a prop substiute on my motor (Sub EA81) for testing?. I need to do testing in a domestic surround, and apart from saftey would be quieter without the 72" prop. making wind.. Thanks Lyle
  23. I see the SPOT gps tracking company now have the SPOT X available in Australia. So basic two way satellite comms (text) are now available. Anyone got one or tried it? https://www.pivotel.com.au/spotx/
  24. On the site we have database sections for Articles, Aircraft, Tutorials etc. The Articles section entries are at the moment coming from the Aviation News forum, I go through each entry in there and convert anything that is interesting into an Article for the Article section and then delete the rest as these are no longer needed. One such type of News Article is every aviation accident that has happened over the last few years so I was wondering, strictly from an educational point of view, whether to create a new section on Aviation Accident Articles. This new section would contain the news
