About Me

  1. As we progress through things it is worth considering an overall site theme i.e. colours, fonts etc. I asked @Ahmed Zayed for his recommendations and he suggested a packaged solution. Ahmed did develop the Xenforo look-a-like theme which you can see at: https://invisioncommunity.com/files/file/9156-provision/ However he has also suggested one of the themes at: https://www.ipsfocus.com/themes/ with my family picking the Elegant theme, I picked the Novus theme and Ahmed suggested the Shift theme. This is extremely important as the site is just basically white with a little blue so
  2. Come Birdsville race time do owners of Savannah’s venture there? We are planning in the future to travel in ours to share the madness.
  3. I am interested in the short field capabilities and very low stall performance of these aircraft. Does anyone know if any of these aircraft have made it to Oz? http://www.katmai-kenai.com/
  4. I am looking for something to replace my Brumby 610 Lycoming powered. I am looking for a big cabin , 130 kts , 4 seats, what’s for sale?
  5. On 6 / 2017 a jab 430 had a forced landing due to piston failure [ I refer to page 14 aircraft incidents & accidents / light plane down Bundaberg QLD ] . It appears the ATSB has closed this investigation , with no real outcome, as to what has caused the piston failure. In RAAS incident reports , it seems that there are still a number of piston failure's happening under certain conditions . [ some as late as 2019 ] . On looking through latest engine manuals for both gen 3 and 4 it appears as though there isn't any rectification in this area, there is another piston that jab are using for g
  6. Today (Wednesday 29) I was watching the news. It was going on about the people from Canada coming over and looking at the crash near Braidwood. Somewhere near there I saw/heard an article about a helicopter landing somewhere and having to take off quickly ...... "Because the heat from the lights started another fire" WTF!!?? (Excuse that, but seriously.....) The lights on the helicopter started another fire? I'm not sure if they said: THELIGHTS or THE HEAT FROM THE LIGHTS.....
  7. 50 Tons of Fuel Dumped over Zurich - Edelweiss Flight 24 ZURICH, Switzerland - On Wednesday, 1 January 2020, an Edelweiss Air Airbus A340-300 Flight 24 from Zurich to Cancun was climbing out of Zurich's runway 16 when the crew stopped the climb due to an abnormal indication for engine number 3 - which later turned out to be a false indication. The crew shut the engine down, dumped 50 tons of fuel, and returned to Zurich for a safe landing on runway 16. The aircraft remained on the ground for another 1.5 hours, then departed again and reached Cancun with a delay of about 3.5 hours. W
  8. G'day All, I'd love to hear from someone who has a Rotax 912/914 engine and has since got their muffler and exhaust components ceramic coated. Are you happy with appearance and is it withstanding the test of time? appreciate any pictures also you may have to share. I have previously done this on other engine exhausts with excellent results as it offers good surface protection from scratches, dirt and lasts longer than the basic paint manufacturers use on exhausts - mine is starting to look a little sad. Any experiences/opinions and referals would be appreciated.
  9. In wanting to revamp my instrument panel, I was looking to fit Murphy Guages or Aviation equivalent. Reason is I want a buzzer and red light next to each guage. I don’t like to visually scan Guages on takeoff, I should be looking outside the whole time, except a quick glance at airspeed which is a large guage directly in front of me on the panel. IF I have an engine problem on take off, I can make immediate decision on next move based on an audible alarm and light, I don’t want to stare at the guage trying to read oil pressure, IF my alarm goes off, IT is a problem I need to attend to ASAP.
  10. Completing Savannah VG restoration. I'd like recommendations for temperature monitoring. Digital or analog? How extensive-- all cylinder CHT and EGT or just CHT on the rear 2 cylinders. Want simple as possible, but not simpler.
  11. Since I have only been here for a relatively short time I am not sure if we have done the "down wind turn". We are flying a thruster at 40kts indicated airspeed into a 30kts wind, GS is 10. We can complete a 45° banked 180° turn in about 4 seconds just above the stall, GS is now 70kts. 10 to 70 in 4 seconds, why do we feel only the normal turning acceleration and not the super car like acceleration ? Why doesn't the plane stall and fall ?
  12. Hello, I am looking into getting a commercial pilots licence in Brisbane, I have heard that Flight One Academy https://www.flightoneacademy.edu.au/ are quite good, what have peoples experience been with them so far?
  13. Has anyone done the conversion to Rpl recently ? I have the Navigation endorsement just looking at how the process of carrying it over Works and if GA Nav is the same or seperate. Thanks guys. Andy
  14. I want to get an RePL certificate to fly a drone under 7Kg. I have an RPL & understand that I just need to do a days practical training, rather than the whole course. Doing the research, it seems a lot of people have jumped onto the drone training bandwagon. Has anyone had a good experience they can point me to? Ideal area for me would be Canberra, then Melbourne or anywhere in between.
  15. My old apprentice master taught me to use Resorcinol when constructing wooden airframe assemblies, but that was years ago, and glue technology, like everything else has progressed. Now we have the two-part epoxy glues and the straight from the glue pot polyurethanes. I'm not going near PVA glues. Resorcinol is a 2-part glue, making high strength bonds, but is not gap filling. Since it is not gap filling the contact surfaces to be glued together have to be near perfectly fitting, which means that cutting of mating parts has to be as close to perfect as possible, and the parts have to be cla
  16. Hi, I'm currently researching the Ultralight History of Australia (specifically in the NT) and wonder if anyone has any suggestions on books/ texts to read please? I've recently acquired a copy of Frank Bailey's Understanding and Flying Ultralights. Any other suggestions are welcomed. Thanks.
  17. Getting closer to thinking about doing the wiring. There will be a whole bunch of questions down the track but my first is pretty simple. I'm using basic LED 'strobe' wingtip lights on my Bushcat that came with the kit. I want to keep things as simple as possible- Is there any need to have a switch for that circuit? I'm happy for it to come on with the master switch and it share a breaker with something else.
  18. I've been trying to find if there is an overall agent or distributor for Avmap Avionic products in Australia. Plenty of people sell them, is their a master agent or distributor that anyone knows of? Thanks
  19. Can anyone provide an update on owning and flying a Vixxen? There hasn't been much posted recently. It is on my short list, maybe a wish list, but who knows what the new year will bring?
  20. Is it possible to fly into controlled airspace in a 24 rego under a RPL if the radio and altimeter is certified, I heard is was but not sure , thinking of getting my RPL just for this reason
  21. Like many of us now I fly with OzRunways on my IPad. My wife often has a secondary backup device with us when we fly together, (ususally just google maps or something on her phone), and I usually have some paper charts stuffed in my flightback somewhere too. But Im looking really hard of upgrading from an old 296 GPS to a Garmin Aera 660 mounted in my cockpit. What do people think? Anybody got one, and what are the advantages of of a small single purpose device in an era of IPAD EFBs? Id really like to get one, but think I need a little more feedback from guys who own and use it, rather t
