flying club software

I am considering hosting a members only bulletin board/discussion group

 

A venue for general discussions

 

and

 

discussion relevant to the politics/ functions of the group concerned

 

I am seeking suggestions for software to enable this.

 

My desires are;

 

members only

 

discussions not visible to non members

 

A member must enroll with own name

 

a member may post with own name

 

A member can also have one alias/username whereby they can post anonymously

 

A member can create a new thread

 

Some threads are "sticky" ie remain at top of list

 

Can post photos

 

max potential membership 300

 

a likely active membership less than 100

 

simple enough administration system for me to manage.

 

any and all advice greatly received

I use this www.phpbb.com on the forums I run. It is free and is also easy to setup.

The group in question is not a flying group, but software that would work for a flying club would meet my aspirations.

 

Putting flying in the title was deliberate to assist Ian in keeping the web crawlers convinced that this is an aeronautical site.

 

But a fair criticism by Robbo based on the way I posted

Maybe I didn't read it properly, from the recent discussion about moving off topic stuff on this forum to another new site by Ian, I got the impression you were trying to do exactly that in competition to Ian.

PHPBB gets hacked very easily, try VBulletin

 

 

I run a small phpbb site, cost next to nothing, never been hacked.

 

I do it for the same reason as davidh.

 

 

If its an aviation club I can set all this up for you here as a club members only forum.

 

If its not, stay away from phpbb and most of the free ones. Stay away from vbulletin unless you know how to code as it is buggy. IPB is still useing ancient technologies

 

 

Ian's suggestion makes the most sense.

 

Personally, I think everybody should post in your real name. Makes people more responsible for what they write. People here though have mostly demonstrated good fellowship and a mature attitude
