My thread for the building of my VG in Adelaide. I will have lots of questions.

Loungeroom is good, just makes it a bit hard to see the telly!
The thinners to take the writing off the sheets is a bit of a treat in the confined space though. Important though or the black printing bleeds through the primer into your top coat.

Since I am still 'in exile' in NZ (due to work), it is likely to be here rather than back home.
Yet your guts out and polish them up, you will be able to fly it home when the job finishes.
While not really a Savannah thread, the Zenith CH-701 has common roots in that two people (Max Tedesco and Chris Heintz) designed it. The Savannah has been derived from this and refined via a number of steps diverging away from the Zenith in a few areas. This includes the Savannah having a conventional rudder and elevator as well as a wing level with the cabin roof so that the cabin roof itself provides a measure of lift for the aircraft. Slats were also dispensed with about a decade ago and replaced with vortex generators. Nevertheless, much of the original CH-701 design features remain on the various Savannah models.

"Common roots" is putting it mildly, in many respects they're almost identical. I bought Savannah wing tanks for my 701 build, and they fit exactly with even the rivet spacing for the supports matching the existing holes in ribs.
But as you say the bit over the cabin is different and I believe the Sav is better in that respect. In fact a 701 owner in the US made what he called a "beanie mod", basically built a centre section wing profile over the flat 701 cabin roof. He reported that low speed handling improved.
(I'm also using Savannah main gear, wheels, brakes, rudder pedals, control yoke, flaperon mixer and doors... maybe I should call it a Zenannah or a Savanith...)
Maybe it's a Savan oh one.

Update. I finally got one one extra tank from Reg. Australia post lost it. The other is on order. Have bought the trim kit. A trim gauge. Some nice grips from Ray Allen. Big tyres. Boot for the stick. Some fuel hose that won't smell. Upgrade door latches. Boots for the firewall. Taps for the extra tanks. Upgrade on the front suspension mounts. Happy to spend a few thousand on upgrades seeing its a cheap plane. My flying has been Bush strips and it's what I like. So it won't fast but I'm hoping it will be good on rough short ground. No fancy instruments either. Well maybe a small I pad GPS.
