Wanting to Find Tassie Trike Pilots

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and I'm interested in getting in touch with some trike pilots in Tasmania. I used to fly hang gliders 20 years ago in NZ and did a bit of flying in my Dad's Rotax 337 powered Thruster too. I've had enough of being grounded and I'm keen on learning more about triking as it looks like a good way for an ex hangie to get back into the sky. I live nearby Hobart and also travel to St Helens every month or so. Look forward to hearing from someone.

Cheers

Mark

G'day Lancer.

l thought there were trike riders at St Helens, but I've never seen any around my stompin grounds, I'm at the mouth of, and across the Tamar River from George Town air strip.

l've often thought of tryin a trike just for the experience, but never got the opportunity, sometimes I'd like to fly slow over some remote areas up in NSW.

Hope ya find em,

Hi Mark,

I'm not a trike bloke but am a Tasmanian. Building a CH701 near Sandfly.

Given that Sandfly strip is full and there's a waiting list, I'd be interested in any fields or strips in southern Tas. If you find any I'd be grateful to hear about them.

Good luck!

Cheers, Marty

Where is Sandfly, please?

20 km south of Hobart on Huon highway. I'd send you the map link but laptop has bit the dust and doing this on a tablet, which I can't drive properly.

Thanks for the replies. I'm hoping that I'm not the only one interested in microlight triking in Tassie as I'd like to get in touch with some current pilots to help convince the other half that microlighting isn't a death wish. I drive past the Sandfly strip everyday going into Hobart to work. Sometimes see a Rotax powered ultralight cruising around the Huon Valley that I presume is flying from Sandfly. I've been looking around for other strips to fly from once I've got a licence and a microlight. Looks like there's one at Glendevie about half way between Geeveston and Dover.

Not sure who owns it though.

Yeah I saw that one. Supposed to be another at Surges Bay too, but I can't spot anything that looks like a strip on Google maps.
