Plane hits Ferris Wheel at end of runway. Does anyone else think that when working out the layout of the Fair you would think to yourself, ferris wheel end of runway bad idea.

Anyway hope all are ok...... If you have not seen the pics or news the plane is stuck just near the top of ride as well as people stuck on the ride.

Not very clever is it?. Although, the pilot has to assess the situation he is getting himself/ herself into voluntarily. The buck stops there. We must all realise it. Hope they are not injured though. Nev

Comments re Old Bar are at the end of this article from the Australian online.

A man has died in one of two light plane crashes in New South Wales this morning.

The man was performing aerobatics at the Temora Aviation Museum when the single engine plane crashed about 10:30am (AEDT).

The museum was set up by David Lowy, the son of billionaire Westfield boss Frank Lowy.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene shortly after the crash to find the plane - known as an Extra 300 - on fire.

The Ambulance Service's Riverina District Manager, Eamon Purcell, says it is not clear if anyone else has been injured in the crash.

"As far as we can see it was a single plane that has had some incident happen to it," he said.

"It's crashed in the vicinity of the museum and we have fire brigade, police and ambulance on the scene at the moment trying to work out what's going on."

About half an hour earlier at Taree, on the state's mid-north coast, a light plane slipped on the runway of the Old Bar airstrip and landed on its roof.

Two people were on board and managed to free themselves from the wreckage.

They are being treated by paramedics.

those ferris wheels must be fairly strong to handle the impact and not fall over.

How true. Cue comments from 9/11 troofer nutjobs.... :cool_shades:

Glad no-one was killed.

PS: can't believe ABC include blasphemy in their news reports now, having gotten to the bottom of the credibility barrel now they are busy digging apparently.

Looking at the site on Google Earth and looking at the photos of the accident, it would appear that the ferris wheel has been set up about 200 mtrs to the south of the runway in line "with" the the runway! Can see a bum kicking coming on for the organiser of the event. Hope they,re insured.

Just very lucky that no one was killed.

Our best wishes to the pilot and his pax. Also to the peeps on the ferris wheel.

Just heard the pilot and passenger have been rescued and are ok. Also, the kids have been rescued from the ferris wheel. It appears the aircraft is a Cheetah Sierra 200 (locally made at Taree). Thanks goodness everyone is ok ... it could have so easily been a huge tragedy.

Pretty hard to miss seeing a ferris wheel, I would imagine it would be visable down the runway prior to take-off...................................................Maj...024_cool.gif.7a88a3168ebd868f5549631161e2b369.gif

Low wing, nose high makes it a little harder to see what's coming up on climb out in a tight situation.037_yikes.gif.f44636559f7f2c4c52637b7ff2322907.gif

Maybe it was moving as they began their takeoff roll.
