Love the color scheme

Thank you Justin!... I make the skins for it..Made 3 sets over the years.

I choose black for the verticle fin and rudder because it doesn`t show up the results of the muffler exhaust,as much as other colours.

Cheers,

Frank.

Back in the eighties I had a part share in a Drifter but over the years have continually upgraded to better machines including some fancy GA aircraft but having followed this thread I am starting to realize just how good that Drifter flying was.

Do you all think I should finally upgrade to the ultimate recreational aircraft and buy another DRIFTER.?

Justin, It's nice to have some down to earth contibution from someone in your part of the world, and especially from a Drifter driver !...............We are fortunate here to have lots of great flying country and weather, but you are also in an area that must offer some great flying, how about some photos for us when you get a chance ?. I notice you have DA-20 katana time..I flew the early Katanas fitted with the 912s, and found them quite a slick machine whilst I was in California. Fly safe and enjoy the new Drifter !.................................................Maj...024_cool.gif.7a88a3168ebd868f5549631161e2b369.gifP1010220.jpg.b7895c5206c493be5085cdbfa2090d04.jpg

Well Alan, you certainly pose an interesting question. I flew a 582 CB Austflight Drifter for eleven years before swapping it for the Lightwing I fly now. There is no doubt that the Drifter offers a unique view of the world from the front seat, and is simply just one fine flying aeroplane with excellent performance for it's type and no bad habits generally. It is an extremly tame tail-dragger to land, for those worried about that.

I haven't flown one now for about three years, but wouldn't hesitate for a second if I was offered a fly in one. They are just a great little flying machine, and one that can be operated quite safely at the lower levels for those so inclined. I certainly wouldn't mind owning one again, if I had the means to own two aircraft..............................Maj...024_cool.gif.7a88a3168ebd868f5549631161e2b369.gif012_thumb_up.gif.cb3bc51429685855e5e23c55d661406e.gif

Alan, seriously!.... I`ve flown quite a few different Ultralights, ( Yes I`ll still call them Ultralights ), and for local recreational flying, you can`t get much better than the Drifter, but you already know this.....006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

I`ve flown both wire and strut braced and I prefer the wire braced, with the small nose pod....For what I want to do, it peforms better. 065_evil_grin.gif.2006e9f40863555e5894f7036698fb5d.gif

Jeeze Ross!...You`ve got the Lightwing looking good.

How about I swap you the Drifter for the Lightwing for a while?...004_oh_yeah.gif.82b3078adb230b2d9519fd79c5873d7f.gif...Promise I`ll treat it with loving care and won`t bend it! 022_wink.gif.2137519eeebfc3acb3315da062b6b1c1.gif

Pretty much the same as it was last time you saw it Frank. I might have given it a wash prior to that trip down to Tomos, that all.

You'd be welcome to take the lightwing for a run anytime you like Frank............not an offer I'd make to many people !...............................................Maj...024_cool.gif.7a88a3168ebd868f5549631161e2b369.gif 033_scratching_head.gif.b541836ec2811b6655a8e435f4c1b53a.gifhurry_up.gif.177b070ad0fed9378055f023fbf484f7.gif

You got it Maj ! I'll start a new thread and post a pic every day, how's that sound ?

Yep, I've got DA20-C1 time, and own one that I brought back from the dead after a flight school crashed it. It's a wonderful airplane (and yes, very slick. I'm always to high and fast on final )

I'm excited about the drifter. Leaving on the 1500 mile (each way) drive to pick her up tomorrow.

OK guys I've got the message, so who's going to start producing the wire braced Drifters again in Australia ?Alan.

Wayne Fisher does kits, but a have heard that he also does factory built super drifters.Would that be right guys?

Don't think Wayne is doing them as kits anymore, but you can get a variety of flavours or mixtures from him that is for sure, even certified now I understand.

Wayne worked for the Austflight factory originally so he knows them back to front. His creations are a very fine and desirable Drifter indeed, and would also be a good investment.

Anyone who has had the pleasure to see Wayne do his low-level aeros, will know what his custom machines can do.

Do not do this with a standard Drifter, or even one of his specials. Waynes' aerobatic machine is specially modified, and Wayne is an aerobatic trained pilot........Top bloke who makes a geat plane, and a very nice set of replacement wing-covers for your standard Drifter ! ................................................................................Maj...024_cool.gif.7a88a3168ebd868f5549631161e2b369.gif
