Lovely Tomo;

I never tire of looking at the farm field patterns. We get some that vaguely resemble "crop circles", for reasons I often cannot fathom.

Any thoughts on a good aerial photography rig (RC linked to outside of aircraft???)

I know about the go pro but was wondering if there was something the professional aerial photographers used.

BTW Tommo, That pic of the field patterns is just fantastic.

Thanks for the compliments guys! Appreciated 001_smile.gif.2cb759f06c4678ed4757932a99c02fa0.gif I use Sony cameras... they haven't been edited at all other than down sized.

The circle crops are because of a centre pivot irrigation system (basically a big sprinkler that is fixed in the middle and drives around in a circle).

When I get the chance I'll find some more photos of them which should show more detail.

Justin; I cannot help but notice the clarity of your photos. Very nice indeed. What is your secret to removing the haze that invariably affects aerial photos to some degree? I use DXO Optics Pro to post-process mine and have developed some settings that minimise the effect of haze, but it is subject to introducing some other impairments under certain lighting and scene situations.

Thanks for the compliment !

Haze is difficult to deal with. My camera is a Nikon D7000.

I try to keep the focal length low to reduce the amount of air between myself and the subject. This of course means using a wide angle lens and getting close (100-400') to the subject. It's important to get a fast focusing camera and lens setup. Also important is keeping the shutter speed high, the ISO low, and the white balance accurate. Some days are simple clearer than others.

I use Adobe Lightroom 3 for the little bit of post processing I do.

My brother took this photo with my older Sony Alpha a100:

Thanks Tomo. The circular irrigators are quite obvious and actually make good landmarks for navigation, but what I was referring to was something like this.

Thanks folks, these photos are nice. Can't open the window in a Jabiru for a clear shot, at least not in a way that the owner wouldn't notice later! 054_no_no_no.gif.950345b863e0f6a5a1b13784a465a8c4.gif

Just clean the window up nicely, all the photos above of mine are taken inside an aircraft, except the Feedlot one which was from a Drifter. The top three from a J120; Drifter; J120, and the last two from a Cessna

Hi David,

I think you'll find the lines in the canola crops are irrigation channels, they follow the contours to keep them level.

Not sure if they are the type to shift water from point a to point b or the type that flood irrigate the paddocks they pass through.

Regards Bill

Can anyone point me to the instructions on how to upload piccies, I keep getting an error message, "file to big"?? they are only about 500K. Thanks in advance.

Photos need to be no biger than 150 kb.....Do you have a resizing tool on your computer.

Frank.

I might be wrong David, but those fields look like they've been setup along the keyline plan idea. For more info see: http://www.keyline.com.au/

I like all your photos Tomo, especially your photos of home, everywhere you look down. There is a airfield underneath you.

Hear hear... The Darling Downs... Aren't they just fantastic... A great place for airmen: No traffic, no terrain, no weather, and nowhere more than 5 minutes from somewhere to land... How good is that?

Some times I wonder what the rich people are doing... But then I think... Argh, who cares?... Nobody's richer than those of us who get to sit around shooting sh*t about little airplanes, eh? 063_coffee.gif.b574a6f834090bf3f27c51bb81b045cf.gif

And can't we pass the hours doing so!!!
