A US father watched as his 19-year-old son was fatally scalped by his own remote-control helicopter.

 

Roman Pirozek Jr was killed this morning after he lost control of the 2.7kg flying machine and it flew into his head, slicing off a large piece of his skull.

 

The teen was a remote-control helicopter enthusiast who was vice-president of the local hobby club and posted many of his tricks on YouTube.

 

“He was known to be aggressive in his flying and often executed tricks,” a law enforcement official told the Wall Street Journal.

 

A video posted online shows the teen performing tricks with the helicopter, with the machine narrowly missing his head.

 

The helicopter’s blade is almost one-and-half metres and revolves 2,000 times in a minute.

 

Mr Pirozek’s neighbour, 68-year-old Victor Tammaso, said the teen had become interested in remote control helicopters through his father.

 

"It was his father’s hobby and he picked it from him. His father must be destroyed," the neighbour said.

Sad, but probably true.

 

You can't become too complacent with those thing's and need to maintain a good distance.

 

In a shallow dive travelling at probably 70-80 MPH, they can be almost as dangerous as a flying chain-saw, if not flown correctly.

 

This is the first case that I personally have heard of, which has had such dire consequenses, but it has now no doubt gone viral, so we can only hope that others learn from it.
