I wonder what the cotton-wool brigade or CASA would have to say if it was here. A long while ago I made a take-off with a Drifter that was a bit like that out of a black-soil paddock on the Diamantina near Winton. As some would know blacksoil is hard stuff until the first moments of rain and then it turns into a skating rink, ten minutes later you can swim in it. Anyway I got off it in the first minutes and it hadn't rained for a couple of years before that so there was a lot of bulldust that quickly turned to slush on top. The take-off was no drama but slippery but I nearly wet myself when I turned around once airborne and had a look at the once-pretty jillaroo in the back seat.
