International air travel in the 1930's

Recommended Posts

The Empire class flying boats were still operating when I was a kid...beautiful!

But the old Handley Page passenger plane - 4 engine biplane - in the late 1920's was quite Amazing for its safety record. No passengers were lost over the millions of miles flown.

It grew out of the HP bomber of WW1 which dropped a lot of processed Australian iron ore on the other side.

I used to sit in school looking out the window at the flying boats taking off from Rose Bay - can't remember what was going on in class !!

Got a soft spot for the Empire Flying Boats though as my Auster shares its rego with one of the Qantas ones
