I've just spent the last 5 days covering some 1,980 nautical miles of spectacular outback desert, and a rather wet Lake Eyre. Special mention goes to Trevor at William Creek, and his dedicated staff and pilots, for their generous hospitality, and their tip on going to see the nearby "Painted Hills". It's been a memorable adventure, indeed.

Fantastic trip, great photo's. Your biggest challenge now will be "what's next".

From YLEC to YWMC to YBDV to YTGM it was spectacular, but very isolated. I'm glad I was well prepared, and armed with heaps of technology to keep me out of trouble (and out of the newspapers) 012_thumb_up.gif.cb3bc51429685855e5e23c55d661406e.gif

I'm now trying to decide whether to tackle the Nullarbor, or go to the northern Queensland coast & islands. Time to plan...062_book.gif.f66253742d25e17391c5980536af74da.gif

I have been having fun looking back at tracks on OzRunways - one from last weekend attached when we did an arrival into Camden via the river at 500AGL. Tower is happy to approve if you ask.

When we went way to Echuca my wife rather liked the general tracking page where she could follow our progress tx.ozrunways.com

This wasn't tecnically my last flight, but it was part of my most recent flying. We flew out to The Rock and other outback places. More videos to come as I edit the footage.

Nice footage and looks like you had a great time. Best regards Mike

I did another local flight today around the Brisbane Valley. What glorious conditions, a little fog, but it posed no problems when I went up. I worked out that I made my 200th Landing today. I'm itching to start my XC endo, the 25nm radius is getting a little well traveled now. 049_sad.gif.af5e5c0993af131d9c5bfe880fbbc2a0.gif

Had a great afternoon last Saturday (14/5) did my first solo navex. Surprised myself and found everything where it should have been. Hardly a bump in the sky. I can't wait to finish servicing the Bushbaby and have it in the air again. Didn't have a camera but the views out on the Liverpool plains are great.024_cool.gif.7a88a3168ebd868f5549631161e2b369.gif

Pre flight this morning at Innaminka ready for a sunrise flight to Stephens Creek just out of Broken Hill. Others in the group continued home to Wentworth and Mildura ending a 3 day run via White Cliffs - Thargomindah - Innaminka. Watched the sunrise and moon set both at the same time from 6500ft all with a 30 knot tailwind.

image.jpeg.e5e2f2482a3e6e35d4dc8017def3a606.jpeg This was a massive flight of about 5 minutes from home base of Goolwa to visit Sue and Robert at Finnissair and was the first landing away from Goolwa in the Onex. Finnissair is their private strip on the edge of the Finnis river, and home to their Cessna 150 Taildragger and beautifully restored 172. A great place to visit as the kettle is always on, the cookies are homemade and they love talking flying.

002_wave.gif.62d5c7a07e46b2ae47f4cd2e61a0c301.gif Hi All,

Back at YRED this morning, after a month of no flying, We had a mains water pipe burst at home a couple of weeks ago, resulting in no water to the house til fixed, whilst I was happy to rough it, Debbie wasn't, so paying the plumber to get running water and flushing toilets to the house again took priority over my flying fix, never thought I would lose out on a flight for a toilet, bugger me!

My wife, Debbie came along to the airport today, brought a camp chair and set herself up by the hangers where she could watch our take offs & landings, Peter set her up with a radio so she could listen to my radio calls, and know where we were in the circuit, it was a hoot having her there watching me fly , taking pictures. It was a busy circuit today, a few other aircraft and helicopters flying about, so she had plenty to watch

Another beautiful day for flying, a small crosswind, about 3 - 5 knots. After a quick revision from Peter on completing a circuit again, away we went, having not flown for a month certainly showed, for what ever reason I had a very heavy left foot on the rudder today, I think my seat was not in the right spot, it took me a couple of circuits to get dialed in again, then I started enjoying the lesson

Today I learned about "Strip Runs" from Peter, I would complete my circuit as per normal but when I was on final and just about to land, he would get me to apply power and I had to keep the aircraft off the ground and fly along the runway keeping the aircraft centered and off the tarmac til it was time to apply full power and climb out for another circuit, happy to admit, not a easy feat for me, took a few goes

I have still a ton of work to do on my circuits, overall my take offs, crosswind and downwind legs are coming along well, just more practice and some finessing, the Base to Final turn is my Achilles Heel at the moment, a lot more practice needed there so that when I have completed the turn I am lined up on the runway, currently I have been turning to late or to early

Cheers, Brent 003_cheezy_grin.gif.c5a94fc2937f61b556d8146a1bc97ef8.gif

Next Flight - Friday the 03rd of June

PS:

While flying today, Debbie managed to film a couple of my flights,

While I was flying today, I got to try out a new app on my iPhone,

"MyFlightbook"

it allows me to track my flight from Engine Start to Engine Shutdown, so today you can see the circuits I flew at Redcliffe Airport

Brent, a month off from flying? I feel your pain!

Reading about your strip runs was interesting. The last stage of flight is just after the round-out when you go into straight and level flight, the float, so I can see how this would be extremely helpful for you.

Glad you're back in the air. Loved the vids, keep them coming.

Tony.

Trying something different. I am converting to fox bat 22LS. its like a flying fishbowl and stalls are a none event flying around with the nose pointed strait up and not losing any height even the wing drops where tame. and it turns so tight

looking forward to flying this aircraft a lot more.

Where are you flying the Foxbat shafs, and if you managed to get a wing to drop, maybe you were a bit out of balance. I have stalled the A22LS a lot of times and never dropped a wing yet.

Casino Areo Club - Beef Week Flyin was a great success, flew in after visiting Warwaick on Saturday just as the wind started at 10.30 which gave us a quick ride to Casino, see GPS ground speed.

Arrived with little wind and much warmer temperatures.

Russell, Debbie and all the Casino Aero club members were great hosts and provided pilots and crews great hospitality and service throughout the weekend not to mention the pilots dinner on Saturday night.

The Casino Beef Week Grand Parade was very impressive and well supported by the town and surrounding communities.

A very well done and thank you to the Casino Aero Club, see you next year.

Graham, Val and Peter and Lynn.

As usual the photos say it all.

Had a great time at the Old Station flyin this weekend. Weather had a mix of NW and other wind. Friday night was an ideal temp and Sat night was very brisk. (My list of things to get now includes southern sleep bags (-10) rather than the Nth Qld coastal ones. There was was a great mix of aircraft, trucks, cars, tractors, stalls and other attractions and as allways a credit to the Creed family tradition and their crew. Very friendly with plenty of aircraft arriving and local flying and then the display rountines. Good food selection, good music, chain saw and cross cut saw comp to name a few things to see and do. Attached are some images on the weekend. Images also include scenery from the trip down and back and at Marian and St Lawerance air fields. Regards Mike

Last Monday morning saw a lovely day for another lesson and this time it was stalls.

At the completion of the stalls that all went very well my instructor, David said ok let's do a few circuits.

Only difference was this time it was my turn to do it all so after a demo touch and go it was my turn.

Three very successful touch downs later Monday's lesson was over, with a big smile

The weather in northern Queensland was typical early winter with clear skies, light wind and thin morning fog. Took the Nynja from Marian to Ayr to pick up my son who is down from Cairns and working in Ayr at the moment. Had a quick 1.5 hour direct flight up and did a 2.2 hour return seeing the sights along the way. Smooth all the way so great first fly for my son. Even the four live (tied up) mud crabs in the baggage didn't seem to mind the flight. Hope those who flew today had nice conditions.

Out of curiosity, decided to see how high the RV-12 would go today. Got to 11,100' (12,400' DA), and was still going up at better than 300 fpm before deciding it was high enough for me, even though the plane could have gone higher. Not bad for 100 hp. The view was pretty good too!

I've had a fantastic long weekend of flying. Had a great time at the Wentworth fly-in, did my bfr with Cliff Banks who was at Wentworth for the weekend and then out to Menindee for lunch at the pub today. Took this picture on the way home to Broken Hill, those familiar with the normally red landscape will appreciate the flush of green which is now prominent through far west NSW. The outback is centrally located for ease of access -come and check it out yourself !

I had a fabulous long weekend, flying with friends into Canberra for a visit. Melbourne turned on a beautiful "blue-sky" winter day for our return to YMEN. I was only the right-seat "sidekick", but I thoroughly enjoyed the whole excursion. ATC throughout the trip was a pleasure to deal with - many thanks!
