Tell us about your last flight

A week ago I was extremely pleased to be able to take my cousin Margaret for a short flight.

Both her and her husband Don now in their mid to late eighties had been the proud owners of. 210 Cessna and both instrument rated pilots. Margaret was most displeased when about fifteen years back Don had arrived home exclaiming, “I’ve sold the Cessna”.

I think Margaret could have done Don a nasty if she was that way inclined.

So it was with great pleasure we took the Pioneer Kite 300 for a spin and it was a perfect day on the Sunday morning. Lifting off of rwy 28 at Leathbridge it wasn’t long before we could see the full length of the Grampians.

A short flight but a thoroughly enjoyable one by us both.AFE27ACC-3F4B-4D96-B0C0-FB674BCED9DB.jpeg.2af5539949083962dfd840c1776d35ce.jpeg

Excellent photos as usual, Graham.

The photos say it all.

They sure do.1. At least a dozen aircraft parked on the Rwy 33 taxiway, blocking it and blowing sand on to the leasehold areas, hangars etc and making aircraft backtrack on the runway on such a busy day.

2. I note that Harvey(VH-WED) couldn't even get into his own hangar because of aircraft parked in front of it and has had to park on the taxiway too.

3. Is that Molly I spy under the breakfast table and serving area to bring joy to the heart of the Council Health Inspector?

Took first flight this afternoon after a 20 year hiatus. Rusty on the flying skills to be sure but had a great time nonethless and it was so good to get back in the air. Flew out of Caboolture with Bill at CRA in his foxbat 24-9100. Think I'll need another couple hrs dual to get current and then do a BFR. It was such a great afternoon though rediscovering the joy of flying!20171217_133708.jpg.abd8144c40c920593a281105e391b0d9.jpg

Woodford Folk Festival in SE Qld is noted for among other things, rain and muddy ground. The usual rain has kept us from flying over the site in past years, but not this year! This year the weather gods cooperated and we were able to see just how extensive this event is.

While we didn't attend the festival, it certainly looks like an amazing event, judging by the website and the size of the grounds.

Woodford Folk Festival

The really funny (ha ha funny) thing is that the festival is directly across the valley from a maximum security prison. I'd bet London to a brick that at night, the inmates of the prison can hear the music and possibly even get a second hand high from the smoke.008_roflmao.gif.692a1fa1bc264885482c2a384583e343.gif

Took my first solo flight in C182 today. Never sweated so much, looking across at the empty seat on the right made me think no stuff ups allowed. Once I was airbourne and completed that first circuits’ checks I felt better and more comfortable. A few more short hops on my own should do the trick. Just hoping the weather plays the game over the next few weeks.

I was very lucky yesterday and was able to take the PA28R-180 with my instructor from YCDR to YEVD for the Great eastern fly in at Evans Head. I still needed 1.1h or instrument time as part of my RPL Nav conversion so I got to do hood time there and back plus class c airspace on the way down and a Touch n go at YBAF on the way back.

There were some great looking aircraft there and a nice day of flying as well.

Well, what seemed like an eternity, but really just shy of 3 months since my last, I was back at YRED yesterday for my first flight for 2018, beautiful day weather wise, virtually no wind however it was extremely hot, what went wrong, take off was without flaps, transponder still on standby, thankfully as Peter stated, at least I did remember all the important bits, like flying the aircraft, lol, we headed out to the training area for some basics and get me back into the grove, despite the couple of foo ba's, it was a corker of a day and certainly reinvigorated my passion for flying again, back for another lesson in a month, cant wait!

I liked your video, but only watched half of it. Was that unsquelching of the radio as annoying for you in the cockpit as it was in the video?

Yep, it was, Santa gave me a ANR Headset for xmas, it was magnified compared to my old set, at times Pete would tell me something and I had to ask him to repeat the question, someone needs their PTT button fixed

Brent:

I noticed that you both had your window vents open. The unsq can also come from the wind blowing on the mic.

Anyway, it was fun watching you fly around Bribie.

Thanks for the tip, did not think of that, will try a different position for the vent next time
