Tell us about your last flight

After a 4 month absence away from flying, due to me breaking my arm at work, I dusted off my faithful Jabiru and took her for a short flight over to Watts Bridge and back on the pretext of getting some fuel. What a great feeling getting back in the air. No pics unfortunately, I was busy getting back into the swing of things.

Tell me about it! A good friend did the next best thing for me, he flew my plane and I rode as PAX a few weeks ago, that somewhat satisfied the flying bug during that time 004_oh_yeah.gif.82b3078adb230b2d9519fd79c5873d7f.gif

Finally a break in the wind if not the heat, I got to go for a fly in C182. I took my son for a ride to the coast with intention of landing at Old Bar for a dip in the ocean. Crosswind was more than I was comfortable with, so a quick diversion to Taree to visit some friends instead. Still a great day. Back in YSTW the tar was melting in Front of the hanger.

For Australia day today I had breakfast in Jindabyne, and made it home to Broken Hill for lunch. WP_20180126_06_42_45_Pro.jpg.bcec79af7c249809c111b8b09c0eec51.jpg

The Snowy Mountains with some early morning fog was very spectacular.

Then the familiar view of seemingly endless landscapes heading for home before the summer thermals really kick in. Pretty awesome Australia Day activity in my book. Hope you enjoyed your day.

With temps in the low 30s last night it was still pretty warm at dawn for an early morning flight this morning. Going to be another hot one today.

I managed to go for my first “100$ Hamburger” on Saturday. Hired ProSky Maryborough’s Tecnam Sierra and went for lunch at the Lagoons 1770 Resort and Spa in Agnes Waters. Could not have asked for better flying weather and lunch.

The Resort and restaurant is a 5min walk from YAWT and the caretaker was kind enough to give me a lift there.

If you had waited until Sunday there were 23 aircraft flew in to Agnes Waters and over 40 aviation enthusiasts for a very social lunch at the resort. It was a bit breezy but very managable. The meal was excellent too.

Russell told me about the fly-in on Sunday, unfortunately I only had Saturday free. I booked your Sportstar, but it had battery issues and thankfully Russell’s Tecnam was available.

When I visited the wind was about 5 to 10kts from the ESE and I landed on 14. For the flight back I took one look at the high ground to the south, the trees and the posibility of rotors scared me and I took off from 32.

I approach at 85 kts.

Didn’t get to fly as I got a flat tyre at the holding point.

I'm supposed to approach at 85 kts but the instructor doesn't mind if I'm a little fast on late final because the speed bleeds off

so fast once you reduce power right over the fence. If we land on the shorter grass runway I'll stick to the numbers as good as I can but

I'm still not really confident landing on the shorter runway.

Good plan. The 3 blade Hartzell “Claw” is even worse. See you at an aerobatic contest sometime?

 • 3 weeks later...

Had a flight in nice flying conditions before work. Would have liked it to be a day off and go further. The local area to the west of Palmyra Airfield, Mackay. The small town in the last image is Eton.

Went up just for a circuit this morning. Weird, couldn't get the bloody thing to come down. Windsocks were hanging totally limp, should have paid attention to my Skyview and changed runways. The screenshot was on downwind for 27, looked like a 10 kt headwind, hence my 45 kt final was actually 55 kt ground speed, at least that is my excuse for the crappiest landing I've done in weeks! Think my computer must be stuffed, still can't post screenshot. Go to pictures/screenshots to attach file and it says "this folder is empty' however if I get out of this and go to pictures on the desktop there are three screenshots in the file!!!! I hate bloody computers.

A beautiful day today in SEQ, after last weekends flight review in such crap weather it was a welcome change. Getting used to the radio calls for the controlled aerodrome. A few more flights and I will be continuing on my PPL next month.
