Sure sounds like a hijacking. However, I wonder whether anybody has estimated the odds of an airliner being hit by a meteorite. One the size of a golf ball might well disable the electronics of everything aboard, I would imagine, considering the possible electrical charge of something passing through the ionosphere at meteorite velocity . . . Has to happen sooner or later . . .

No debri found.

Actually, the longer this goes on, the more like the Stinson mystery it becomes. Lack of info brings out lots of rumours and wild leads which distract authorities.

 

Perhaps one or more of the pilots got an offer too good to refuse from Kim Jong Un, disabled all tracking devices and headed to the workers' paradise north of the 39th parallel.

Shows that without primary ground radar a plane can just disappear. It therefore is obvious that it can be invisible by choice. With heavily trafficked corridors, where is the separation monitored?. Nev

There is report that a Chinese satellite has picked up debris in the water that looks like it could be from an aircraft and it is near the course the aircraft was flying, and also a kiwi guy on an oil rig reported seeing a plane on fire at about the correct time and place... maybe they have found it.?

I hope it is a legitimate sighting, but the fact it's taken so long for him to tell the media makes me think it's just someone trying to get in on the action.

As a mark of respect to the passengers and crew of MH370 on 8 March 2014, the MH370 and MH371 flight codes will be retired from the Malaysia Airlines’ Kuala Lumpur- Beijing-Kuala Lumpur route.

 

With effect from 14 March 2014, the new flight number to replace MH370 and MH371 will be:-

 

MH 318 – Kuala Lumpur - Beijing

 

MH 319 – Beijing - Kuala Lumpur

 

There are no changes to the frequency of our services and we will continue to operate double daily services to Beijing.

 

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families of our colleagues and passengers of MH 370.

Q: Slightly off topic but

 

If all the electrics on a 777 had a melt down (ie: both AC feeds, Batt, APU (if started in time), (& wind generator if fitted???)) given the sudden loss of transponder, I imagine the fly by wire system would then be also inoperable????

 

Or is there another backup in place?

 

Also given that a pressurisation system relies on the control of air exiting the airframe (electrically??), I imagine that a total power out would maintain the last pressure setting (ie not fail open and depressurise the cabin)???? I am obviously not a big jet specialist...

 

Lot more Q's than A's ATM.....

The latest is that the engine monitoring system was sending data back to boeing for a total flight time of around. 5 hours well after the transponder was turned off / stopped working. My bet is that something really suss happened.

OK, this is a head scratcher. So have I got this right that a paddock hopping ultralight has to carry an ELT but not necessary in an intercontinental travelling Boeing? The information is unreliable and the speculation by "officials" is frustrating. It seems the press need to be more selective in what they publish.

 

We all want answers, but all this confusion is torture.

Slow depressurisation sending everyone to sleep.......Flight just few on autopilot until ran out of juice?

 

Doesn't explain no radar signal though......

 

Happened to a small A/C flying from Perth to Leonora.....ended up in QLD....about 10/15 yrs ago.

 

I was due to be picked up by it on a mine site the next morning.

 

If it had of happened to my flight, we would have been fish food half way to Antarctica.......

If the plane had continued on auto pilot it would most likely have popped up on primary radar somewhere. As far as anyone knows right now it didn't crash. Or at least if it did crash it's probably nowhere near where they are looking. It may never be found if it is in water.
