Natfly 2014

Arrived back from Temora this afternoon I did not see a CASA Inspector the whole time I was there from Wednesday to Saturday. That doesn't mean they weren't there.

They were there, hi-vis waistcoats and all, but there were very few planes to ramp check or even say hello to.

Hi DoDo

At an earlier time and on another thread, "I did mention having a northern RAAus fly-in".

I have to hasten to advise you this suggestion generated a lot of discussion, the main beef was there is not a big enough concentration of RAAus members in Nth Qld and it would be a lot easier for the members to get to Temora and I even got a maths equation as to the geographical location to the members numbers.

I am just bringing the chooks home to roost.

Col I like your post "52".. Looks like CASA may be police persons to fresh air.

Regards

Keith Page..

Keith, we don't doubt the attractiveness and hospitality of RARA and FNQ but there must be a problem if the people of NSW are migrating to Victoria and the cane toads are trekking across deserts to get to WA.

Do not know Col, oodles of all varities up here. They all want us to change to day light saving.

Regards

Geez! Just got home and fired up the forums expecting lots of posts and photo's, to make me feel pee'd off for not being able to attend.

All I found was three pages of largely negative posts and no pic's. That's sad! Not only for those that took the trouble to attend, but also for those that wish they had, if the event was not up to expectations.

Like most on here, i'm well aware that Narromine was generally well attended, even at times when the weather-gods were not being very kind.

Is it general RAA unrest/ CASA involvement, or the venue which is the problem?

The answers to this would no doubt be complex and varied, but I just so hope that the situation can be reversed for all concerned in the future.

We'll I enjoyed it, I stayed away from the seminars and instead met up with some fellas I'd only known via the internet , and for me that's what NatFly is all about, Im not about to by a $130 k plane but the event was pretty good , not the best but pretty good , and to be honest it's only a reflection of us as a group , we after all make up RAA so if our event is crap then look in a mirror people . I went had a great time , saw some nice planes and met up with some old and new mates , and , surprisingly the evil CASA didn't harass me at all , perhaps I'm just luckier than most

Very few????? I must have been at the other Temora airport. Certainly not as many as when I was there two tears ago but I'd call two paddocks full quite a few.

My dear old Mum used to say "there's none so blind as those who will not see" Col, Specsavers will be open again on Tuesday. gleam.gif.61a3085bab2441797a6de7bfc35070cb.gif

Plenty of planes as far as I saw , the best way to make sure the event disappears is to bag it every year, even being lower numbers than previous it was still the biggest fly in we have in this country, and if WE support it , it will grow into something really huge, BUT ,we have to support it , and realise that our revisiting and making new mates is the reason to go ,

Planedriver I've only just arrived home and haven't had a chance to check & see if any of my photo's are worth posting. If they are and I can work out how to upload some, I'll do it tomorrow sometime. Don't hold your breath though....

Couldn't comment on numbers as I don't have much to compare to but although not so busy I enjoyed it much more than the previous one I was at two years ago I think it was. There weren't as many workshops but seemed to be many more locals and definitely more families with youngsters about which I think was nice. The aero displays and Spitfire demo were top class, only wish the latter did some ground straffing or dropped a couple of bombs.

Some of the display companies didn't show for whatever reason but that happened last time also. Maybe they sold enough already this year, who knows. Didn't see much on instruments / electronics but I may have missed it. Not much rag & tube but they hardly showed last time I was there despite a special emphasis to feature them at that time. The CAMit engines looked terrific and it was really interesting to chat to Ian, I hope he keeps progressing this engine as I think it has a promising future if he does. Needs EFI in my opinion but on that topic Mr Stiff is having none of that on the Jab version, I agree engine control electronics were unreliable - but that was 30 years ago. He is apparently keen on a mechanical version. Hey, it may work.... after all got to respect what the man has pulled off. But I noticed much of the opposition seems to have successfully adopted some form of EFI.

There were a lot of people wearing Hi Vis vests. Yes plane numbers were down for what ever reasons I had a good time meet a lot of people from all corners of the country, Had a good look around Temora's township thanks to the courtesy bus. I enjoyed myself. Beats the hell out of going to work!

What's numbers got to do with how much you enjoy a gathering of like minds and their planes?

Sure there were far fewer aircraft, but it was also less hectic with less traffic to negotiate when arriving.

I was pleased to see quite a few families visiting and camping. Who says we're a dying breed? In the camping area I saw a couple of big screens showing kids an appropriate movie: Planes. There were also a few forumites present.

It was great to meet up with familiar faces and make new friends- and talk about something other than bloody footy.

Congratulations robinsm, don't forget you might have other duties as well.kiss.gif.b85e4cbf93c012b498aab8fe7d5a5fe6.gif

Distraction is not always a good thing.

Short emergency interuption! I'll be back.

I fired up the bbq about 15 mins ago and the retirement village smoke/fire alarm just went off because all the excess fat caught alight in the barbie and the village almost disappeared. 037_yikes.gif.f44636559f7f2c4c52637b7ff2322907.gif It was going up a real treat:score 001:

All good now, back to posting and cooking the lamb shish-kebabs in a few minutes.

Well Matty,

I would give my right nut to go, I will hopefully get up there one year, because last 5 years I have always been away at work as I work away on rotation.

I'm with you the planes and flying activities will be great but meeting people who are on here is all part of the fun.

I made it a point to meet Maj Millard when I went on my holiday to Cairns with a motorhome trip from there to the Sunny Coast last November and for me other than spending a great time with the wife and the other couple we were travelling with it was a great thing to meet a fellow formunite.

I got plans to fly around and meet a few more in Ballarat, Shepparton, Jaspers Brush And even ol mate Dazza in Brizvegas is on the cards, one weekend I might even slip in to Coldstream and catch up if we can arrange something.

West Sale is also available to anyone to come down on a weekend as I could arrange some space in the hanger for the chariot if someone wants to overnight and socialise, as the kids are all gone now bar 1 (19) I got spare room at home for a couple.

When I am home on break (3 on 3 off) I am usually a hanger rat out there if the weather is ok or out there enjoying the thing I love the most other than the family, and that my friends is burning 95 octane and boring holes in the sky with it.

Cheers

Alf

Warning: the hidden cost of attending Natfly could be exhorbitant!

My trouble and strife has welcomed me home with the observation that, since I had been enjoying so many trips away, it was now her turn.

She wants an all-expenses trip to a quilting camp, and because I've been to ten Natflys, she's going for ten bloody days!

Why not have a ladies quilting, knitting, pottery and etc. etc. etc. tent at Natfly.

Kill two birds with one stone that way.

Keith Page.

That would quickly take over as the main event Keith, and then they'd cut the flying back during the day because of the noise, and make you dress up for dinner.

A ladies program??? That is sounding frighteningly like Natfly Narromine again.

Tell her to make it a full two weeks that should cover you for the next four natfly's:wink:
