I share with you an interesting collection of pictures showing one of the projects launched at the end of World War II by Germany as part of its war effort to try to avoid the increasingly Allied bombing. The big question remains whether this rocket plane had been built in greater quantities and earlier would have changed the final outcome? What do you think? Its a very odd thing to ask "had been built in greater quantities and earlier would have changed the final outcome?" The answer is of course it could have - if it had been available 5 years earlier or even 2 when the operationbal capacity and organisations of the German military and its support infrastructure were not in ruin ... but an equally odd and pointless question would have been if the nuclear weapons from 1945 had been available in 1940 in Europe and in greater numbers that was available in 1945 in the pacific would that have changed the outcome?

The Bachem Natter was one of the 'desperation' point defense projects at the end of the war - it was operationally not successful but its failure was a combination of lack of pilots, lack of fuel/ammunition, lack of supply chain and lack of production capacity ... German military operations at the the end of the war were not operating with full capability and support or anything like it so to ask if any of the technology at the end of the war would have help is generally answerable with a simple 'no' ... regardless of how good the tech was the infrastructure and operational capacity to utilize it was so lacking that the technology aspects were not really helpful.

The question I prefer to ask myself is...."What would have been the outcome if instead of pushing for war the British had pushed for peace with Germany?"

The war would have ultimately ended the same.

 

How long it would have taken and at what cost are the only questions............

Peace with Germany? They would have taken over all of Europe, then attacked Russia and England would have been their ally.

 

Peace in our time was a much denigrated statement by the british PM, but if England had tried to control germany at that time Germany would have rolled over them. it did at least give some breathing space for england to build up its war capacity.

 

Whatever happened the USA was not going to get involved until Europe was worn out and broke. They only got involved in the end when Japan attacked them. Mc Arthur then ran away from the Japs and saved Australia. Ha ha.
