A Geraldton pilot was lucky to escape injury after his ultralight aircraft crashed into the ground at Morawa, in the State’s Mid West.

The 80-year-old pilot was flying from Geraldton to Morawa when the aircraft was caught in a cross-wind on approach to the Morawa Airport about 3.30pm today.

The aircraft sustained damage to its propeller and undercarriage, but the pilot was not injured.

the airframe damage may be surprisingly easy to fix; the prop damage raises questions re the engine. The main thing is he's OK. As another thread discusses, who among us can claim to have enough crosswind landing practice?

That takes some doing

Looks like an LSA55 or similar. Wasn't that hard to break their nose gear. The later designs were much better.

Glad this guy is ok. 80 years old and still pranging aeroplanes on remote desert strips, pretty good going I reckon....
