Spent Two days on the road with her during The Hay run in Jan. She may not be perfect but she cares and that is more than I can say about those two oxygen thieves who didn't even bother to attend the repatriation of more than 30 Vietnam Vets because they were trying to con votes out of people.

Pauline is one smart cookie, she gets all these middle aged blokes to donate time and money to run her campaigns and she pockets the AEC funding for all the votes. As far as I can tell she hasn't been in paid employment since she lost her seat in 1998

The pundits have her probably getting a senate seat. She was treated abominably last time. A big slush fund was used to bring her down, that has some legal issues pending, still. Nev

The weird thing about Pauline, she was a lib, her senator for the NSW was David Oldfield who came from Tony Abbott's office and Tony Abbott's office funded the campaign to bring her down but not Oldfield.

It's what happens when you threaten "The System", happening to Trump now - and no, I'm not interested in opinions on the runners themselves, that's not the point.

That slush fund was organised by various people who were then currently in power, Wayne Swann for example, one of the inner sanctum, one of Australia's most disgusting episodes when the people who are in power who are supposed to uphold your right of general freedom of opinion and movement, and of course your right to run for Government, band together to stop it.

The blame is not all on Wayne swann and Labor. Remember the worst PM that Australia ever had was also against her, as was his offsider, the other failed PM. Howard and Abbot, what a pair and the current one doesn't impress. But to succeed they have very little to beat.

Wayne Swann went on National TV leading this little campaign as front man so you are 100% wrong.

Both Parties teamed up with support from the Greens to stop her in her tracks, both Lib and ALP, that was my point., nothing to do with a ALP Vs Lib rant.

I don't agree with the machinations to bring her down last time by any means. Doesn't mean we should lose sight of her shortcomings.

Anybody should be able to freely run for Government on their platforms regardless of "shortcomings", that has nothing to do with the 2 Parties spending your time and your money on running campaigns against.

The shortcomings are for you and you alone to form an opinion on, and then make a decision on when you go to the booth, the only moment of true democracy in our Socialist Liberal system (it's actually not as you are forced to vote) that should in no way be interfered with by those who are supposed to be the holders and protectors of that system.

As see it:

You are not forced to vote , but to get your name ticked off the registered list,

then tear up the paper & put in in the bin, without voting for any parasite.

As someone said said elsewhere (perhaps another thread), the worst thing about the election is that one of them has to win. However, if you don't have your say at the ballot box, don't bitch and complain at whoever does get in.

That is only a win for the big Parties, a protest vote should be one that actually has some impact.

I am not interested in a Pauline Hanson "shortcomings" debate, but those votes for One Nation were one of the few times in modern Australian political history that the Governments were actually forced to make genuine and very real policy changes attributed to the votes they lost. Votes for the Greens tend to have the same effect. Sadly the couple of rouge Senators that got through last time forced the 2 Parties to make changes for that loophole to be closed this election.

That is what a "protest vote" should do, not voting has the opposite effect, the 2 Parties love you Mate.

Yes all those parties were so surprised that someone got in on a real popular vote of the people that they ganged together to get rid of her ,regardless of whether you agree or disagree on her policies, if those parties did the same to form policy on important problems in Australia and around the world how much would things be better. Now where is my optimistic button ?!!!!

With the present situation being caused by Malcolm not being happy with the Sentate. I think I might vote Labor for the reps as our local Lib is pretty useless and Lib / National in the Senate. The real bad thing about the whole election is that we will probably get another ex PM who will have heaps of money spent on him.

Pauline targets areas where the working poor have been abandoned by labor and the liberals, that's why she almost won in Gatton in 2013, luckily she lost by a few hundred votes. But most of those poor areas are a result of their own prejudices, which she always plays up to. Used to be Asians, now its Muslim terrorists but its a thinly veiled attempt to use people's fears to enrich herself.

I didn't say "I don't vote"

I voted for an individual, not a party,

Now we have to tick lots more boxes than we want to, Just to make it harder to vote for a particular person.

" Voting Below the Line If you choose to vote below the line you must put a number '1' in one of the squares below the line.

Then you must put the number '2', then the number '3', then '4' then '5' — all the way to number '15'.

You must number at least 15 squares for your vote to be counted. These numbers can be in any squares below the line.

Bludi polies can't let us vote for the one or two we think could be honest.

Do what I do and work backwards. If you give the highest number to the person you really don't want in, then work through to the least offensive at #1, it seems easier than the other way around...
