That's TWO planes crashes in the news, on the same morning! One with two fatalities at Captain Creek, and a crash with an injured pilot in the Atherton Tablelands.

What is happening? - it seems like every weekend now, there's a light aircraft crash. The statistics for light aircraft crashes must be going through the roof this year.

The Captain Creek crash says the aircraft went down "at the end of the runway". Sounds like another badly-managed EFATO?

A lot of GA crashes are reported here now.

For some years about 10 -12 RA pilots/passengers were the figures.

Two areas carved out of the bush near Round Hill Rd, Captain Creek.

The lower one has an aircraft sitting at the end.

Maybe the one above it isn't an airstrip.

Turbo, neither of those the bottom one is 1400 long and is a good strip, the top one is about 800 long and is not bad but tight the one it happened on is about a mile away short with some pretty big timber on approach which was what was hit

Cant tell if its a high or low wing or see any rego numbers on the picture shown... The fin looks like a Zenith though..maybe a 601 or 701

Kyle I didn’t see it but got told by a couple here that it was a Zenith, sadly seems like wife and son first on scene

Condolences to the families and friends of the lost aviators, terrible thing to happen at anytime of the year but awful this time of the year, that is a few for this year alone and the RAA was doing so well up until recently.

Take care out there brothers and sisters.

The distance may be deceiving due to lens distortion, but the timber each end of that runway looks like it should have been chopped back more.

Onetrack...this is Qld....if you chop down a tree the govt wants to fine you $500,000 at the drop of a hat.  Its nuts. You should try dealing with DNRME...they are unbelievably bad if you want to clear anything. I have had my own fights with them over my farm.

The ultralight fatality list has reached a total of 12 so far this year. That is worse than the previously-worst year, 2013, when 11 fatalities were recorded.

We still have 23 days to years end. Let's hope there's no more UL fatalities this year.

Not all the accidents on your list were RA-Aus administered aircraft.

I agree, 3 fatalities were from 2 gyro crashes. Still a really bad record for the light aircraft flying fraternity for the year, and one which is bound to have repercussions, with more clamour for "improved safety".
